The Efficacy and Safety of Intravenous Thrombolysis in Older Chinese Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke
Ming Xu, Jiamei Guo, Xianming Tao, Kebin ZengNeurology India 2021 69(1):91-96 To study the efficacy and safety of intravenous thrombolysis for the older acute ischemic stroke patients, clinical data were prospectively analyzed from 168 patients with acute ischemic stroke including 42 older adult patients (ET group), 66 younger patients (NET group) treated with rt-PA, and 60 older adult patients treated without rt-PA (ENT group). Stroke severity was assessed with an NIHSS score at baseline, 1-day and 14-day after treatment. Functional outcomes were evaluated by the modified Rankin scale and a Barthel index. Adverse effects...

Management of Dyslipidaemia for the Prevention of Stroke: Clinical Practice Recommendations from the Lipid Association of India
Curr Vasc Pharmacol. 2021 Nov 9. doi: 10.2174/1570161119666211109122231. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTStroke is the second most common cause of death worldwide. The rates of stroke are increasing in less affluent countries predominantly because of a high prevalence of modifiable risk factors. The Lipid Association of India (LAI) has provided a risk stratification algorithm for patients with ischaemic stroke and recommended low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) goals for those in a very high risk group and extreme risk group (category A) of <50 mg/dl (1.3 mmol/l) while the LDL-C goal for extreme risk group (catego...

Acute ischemic stroke in children & #8211; should we thrombolyze ?
KP Vinayan, Vivek Nambiar, Vaishakh AnandAnnals of Indian Academy of Neurology 2022 25(1):21-25 Ischemic stroke is a major cause of acute neurological symptoms in children with significant long-term neurological sequelae. Unlike in the adult population, the clinical presentation of strokes in children may not be stereotyped. Hence, many other differential diagnostic possibilities might have to be considered in the emergency setting. Due to this heterogeneous presentation and the resultant clinical dilemma in the early detection, acute thrombolysis even now remains as a very rarely tried therapeutic option in children. Man...

Saving the brain initiative – Developing an effective hub-and-spoke model to improve the acute stroke management pathways in urban India
We aimed to develop and evaluate a hub-and-spoke model in the East Delhi by assessing knowledge and creating awareness through sensitization programs in target communities and among general physicians (GPs) along with implementation of a standard stroke management protocol (SMP) at our institute in order to extend the benefit of thrombolytic therapy.
