Recovering is about < em > living my life, as it evolves < /em > : perspectives of stroke survivors in remote northwest Queensland
CONCLUSION: Recovering from stroke from the perspective of stroke survivors in remote NWQ is about living their life, as they want it to be, and as it unfolds within their own context. Technology only has a place when it can support them to recover their way in their world. These findings reinforce the importance of health professionals listening, learning about, and enabling stroke survivors along their recovery journey, within their remote context and support network.Implications for RehabilitationRecovering from the perspective of stroke survivors is about living their life as it evolves. To support stroke survivors from...

Physical inactivity after stroke: Incidence and early predictors based on 190 individuals in a 12-month follow-up of the fall study of Gothenburg
CONCLUSION: Almost 4 in 10 participants reported physical inactivity 1 year after stroke. Physical inactivity before the stroke, stroke severity and fear of falling in acute stroke are the 3 main factors that predict physical inactivity 1 year after stroke.PMID:34121128 | DOI:10.2340/16501977-2852

Functional profiles derived from the ICF Generic set and the responsiveness and validity of the Generic-6 set's Functioning score among persons after stroke
CONCLUSIONS: ICF classification of persons post stroke during rehabilitation recovery was feasible. The Generic-6 FS detected changes in functioning and health in persons recovered for rehabilitation after stroke and distinguished between different recovery rates of persons in the acute and chronic phase after stroke.PMID:34542256 | DOI:10.23736/S1973-9087.21.06706-X

The course of depressive symptoms in the first 12 months post-stroke and its association with unmet needs
CONCLUSIONS: Depressive symptoms three months post-stroke were likely to persist or recur during the first 12 months post-stroke. Depressive symptoms are associated with unmet needs. These results suggest that routine monitoring of depressive symptoms and unmet needs should be considered post-stroke.Implications for rehabilitationPatients with depressive symptoms three months post-stroke have a high risk of developing persistent or recurrent depressive symptoms during the first 12 months post-stroke.Unmet needs are associated with both non-consistent and persistent depressive symptoms post-stroke.These results suggest that...

The use of mobile and web-based applications to support rehabilitation after stroke: a scoping review
CONCLUSION: Most included studies of applications developed to support the rehabilitation process after stroke have been explorative. They included primarily participants with mild or moderate stroke and focused on a limited aspect of the rehabilitation process, e.g., assessment or training. Future applications to support stroke rehabilitation should accommodate stroke survivors' and caregivers' need for solutions, irrespective of stroke severity and throughout the entire rehabilitation process.PMID:35174871 | DOI:10.2340/jrm.v54.452

Factors guiding therapist decision making in the rehabilitation of physical function after severely disabling stroke - an ethnographic study
CONCLUSIONS: Multiple factors guided therapist decision making after severely disabling stroke. Alternative ways of therapist working should be considered to address the physical needs of severely disabled stroke survivors more fully.Implications for rehabilitationMultiple factors guide therapist decision making after severely disabling stroke, some of which result in the use of interventions that do not fully address stroke survivors' clinical needs.Therapists should critically reflect upon their personal beliefs and attitudes about severely disabling stroke to reduce potential sources of bias on decision making.Therapist...

Stroke rehabilitation: availability of a family member as caregiver and discharge destination.
Conclusion: Literature is rich with studies showing functional independence to be the most important predictor of home as discharge disposition but our analysis shows that pre-stroke living arrangement, i.e., lived alone vs lived not alone is also an important predictor for patients to be discharged home after stroke rehabilitation. Clinical rehabilitation impact: If current discharge planning relies on the availability of a caregiver at home after discharge from in-patient stroke rehabilitation then it may be worthwhile to include these caregivers in the inpatient rehabilitation process, to prepare them for their loved on...
