Rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder in Brain Injury: A Complex Case Requiring Close Coordination of Care
CONCLUSION: The correct diagnosis was only achieved by clear communication among team members which allowed for optimal treatment and improvement with therapies.PMID:37661894 | DOI:10.3233/NRE-220284

Allied health clinicians ’ uptake of evidence in stroke rehabilitation: A systematic review of determinants targeted in implementation studies
This study aimed to determine whether targeting specific implementation determinants is associated with allied health clinicians ’ uptake of evidence when implemented within stroke rehabilitation settings.

Validating the measurement of upper limb sensorimotor behavior utilizing a tablet in neurologically intact controls and individuals with chronic stroke
Intact sensorimotor function of the upper extremity is essential for successfully performing activities of daily living. After a stroke, upper limb function is often compromised and requires rehabilitation. To...

Effects of a soft robotic exosuit on the quality and speed of overground walking depends on walking ability after stroke
Soft robotic exosuits can provide partial dorsiflexor and plantarflexor support in parallel with paretic muscles to improve poststroke walking capacity. Previous results indicate that baseline walking ability ...

Sensory hypersensitivity after acquired brain injury: the patient perspective
CONCLUSIONS: Sensory hypersensitivity can have a major impact on patients' physical well-being, return to work and (social) participation after ABI. Characteristics of sensory hypersensitivity vary between patients with ABI. To develop treatments for sensory hypersensitivity, future studies should focus on cognitive (e.g., filtering information) and psychological factors (e.g., coping) in relation to sensory hypersensitivity.PMID:37649314 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2023.2251401

Top-Down and Bottom-Up Mechanisms of Motor Recovery Poststroke
Stroke remains a leading cause of disability. Motor recovery requires the interaction of top-down and bottom-up mechanisms, which reinforce each other. Injury to the brain initiates a biphasic neuroimmune process, which opens a window for spontaneous recovery during which the brain is particularly sensitive to activity. Physical activity during this sensitive period can lead to rapid recovery by potentiating anti-inflammatory and neuroplastic processes. On the other hand, lack of physical activity can lead to early closure of the sensitive period and downstream changes in muscles, such as sarcopenia, muscle stiffness, and ...

Are antiepileptic drugs effective for the primary and secondary prevention of Seizures after stroke? A Cochrane Review summary with commentary
CONCLUSION: The evidence for routine use of AED for the primary and secondary prophylaxis of post stroke seizures is unclear. There is a need for high-quality trials to address this question using a larger sample size.PMID:37638459 | DOI:10.3233/NRE-236004

Diffusion tensor imaging magnetic resonance imaging (DTI-MRI) helps to tailor speech therapy: A case report with a short narrative review
CONCLUSION: Brain MRI is confirmed as a multimodal tool evaluating the damage, both from the point of structural and functional view. Tractography in aphasia allows focusing on major pathways. The involvement of the arcuate fascicle, whose lesion disconnects Broca's and Wernicke's areas, is related to clinical improvement, and represents a neural correlate of the brain injury recovery process that physicians and speech therapists might be aware of it, tailoring the plane of care of each patient.PMID:37638456 | DOI:10.3233/NRE-230082

Assessment and tailored physical rehabilitation approaches in persons with cerebellar impairments targeting mobility and walking according to the International Classification of Functioning: a systematic review of case-reports and case-series
CONCLUSIONS: A comprehensive test battery to encompass the key features of a PwCI on different levels of the ICF is needed to manage heterogeneity. Measures on body function level should be included in interventions.PMID:37639546 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2023.2248886
