A Post-Stroke Rehabilitation System Integrating Robotics, VR and High-Resolution EEG Imaging
We propose a system for the neuro-motor rehabilitation of upper limbs in stroke survivors. The system is composed of a passive robotic device (Trackhold) for kinematic tracking and gravity compensation, five dedicated virtual reality (VR) applications for training of distinct movement patterns, and high-resolution EEG for synchronous monitoring of cortical activity. In contrast to active devices, the Trackhold omits actuators for increased patient safety and acceptance levels, and for reduced complexity and costs. VR applications present all relevant information for task execution as easy-to-understand graphics that do not...

Indices of Loading and Propulsive Ability in the Gait of Patients With Chronic Stroke With Equinus Foot Deviation: A Correlation Study
In this study, we analyzed the correlation between the indices of dynamic loading and propulsion ability of 40 chronic hemiparetic post-stroke patients with equinus foot deviation and a set of clinical assessments of ankle joint deviations and walking ability. Ankle passive and active range of motion (ROM) and triceps surae spasticity were considered, along with walking speed and three complementary scales of walking ability focusing respectively on the need for assistance on functional mobility, including balance and transfers, and the limitation in social participation. The correlation between the ground reaction force-b...

BCI-FES With Multimodal Feedback for Motor Recovery Poststroke
In this report, we describe device parameters and intervention protocols of our BCI-FES system which, combined with standard physical rehabilitation approaches, has proven efficacious in treating UE motor impairment in stroke survivors, regardless of level of impairment and chronicity.

3D Deep Neural Network Segmentation of Intracerebral Hemorrhage: Development and Validation for Clinical Trials
AbstractIntracranial hemorrhage (ICH) occurs when a blood vessel ruptures in the brain. This leads to significant morbidity and mortality, the likelihood of which is predicated on the size of the bleeding event. X-ray computed tomography (CT) scans allow clinicians and researchers to qualitatively and quantitatively diagnose hemorrhagic stroke, guide interventions and determine inclusion criteria of patients in clinical trials. There is no currently available open source, validated tool to quickly segment hemorrhage. Using an automated pipeline and 2D and 3D deep neural networks, we show that we can quickly and accurately ...

Computed Tomography Imaging Predictors of Intracerebral Hemorrhage Expansion
AbstractPurpose of ReviewHematoma expansion (HE) is strongly associated with poor clinical outcome and is a compelling target for improving outcome after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Non-contrast computed tomography (NCCT) is widely used in clinical practice due to its faster acquisition at the presence of acute stroke. Recently, imaging markers on NCCT are increasingly used for predicting HE. We comprehensively review the current evidence on HE prediction using NCCT and provide a summary for assessment of these markers in future research studies.Recent FindingsPredictors of HE on NCCT have been described in reports of ...
