Partial upper sternotomy for aortic valve replacement provides similar mid-term outcomes as the full sternotomy
CONCLUSIONS: Upper partial sternotomy can be performed safely for aortic valve replacement, without increased risk of death, stroke or re-admission in 3 years postoperatively.PMID:35572904 | PMC:PMC9096275 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-21-1494

Minimally Invasive Surgery Plus Recombinant Tissue-type Plasminogen Activator for Intracerebral Hemorrhage Evacuation Decreases Perihematomal Edema Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Hematoma evacuation is associated with significant reduction in PHE. Furthermore, PHE does not seem to be exacerbated by rt-PA, making such neurotoxic effects unlikely when the drug is delivered to intracranial clot.

Is a minimally invasive approach for resection of benign cardiac masses superior to standard full sternotomy?
A best evidence topic in cardiac surgery was written according to a structured protocol. The question addressed was ‘is a minimally invasive approach for resection of benign cardiac masses superior to standard full sternotomy?’ A total of 50 papers were found using the reported search, of which, 11 represented the best evidence to answer the clinical question. The authors, country, journal, date of publication, patient group studied, study type, relevant outcomes and results of these papers are tabulated. All 11 papers were retrospective studies, from which 4 were case–control studies comparing the minima...

Characterization of dysfunctional remote myocardium in left ventricular anterior aneurysms and improvements following surgical ventricular restoration using cardiac magnetic resonance imaging: preliminary results
CONCLUSIONS In patients with chronic ischaemic heart disease with LV aneurysms/large areas of scar, improvements in the remote myocardial MMV and WT underline LV systolic function improvements after SVR. The persistence of myocardial WT in early diastole is the likely mechanism for incomplete or absence of relief of LV diastolic dysfunction by SVR.

Minimally invasive surgery treatment for the patients with spontaneous supratentorial intracerebral hemorrhage (MISTICH): protocol of a multi-center randomized controlled trial
DiscussionThe MISTICH trial is a randomized controlled trial designed to determine whether minimally invasive surgeries could improve the prognosis for patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage compared with craniotomy. (ChiCTR-TRC-12002026. Registered 23 March 2012).

302 * full sternotomy versus right anterior mini-thoracotomy for isolated aortic valve replacement in octogenarians: a propensity matched study
Conclusion: Minimally invasive AVR through RAMT can be safely performed in patients aged ≥80 years with acceptable morbidity and mortality rates. It is an expeditious and effective alternative to full sternotomy AVR and might be associated with lower stroke incidence.

Maze surgery normalizes left ventricular function in patients with persistent lone atrial fibrillation ADULT CARDIAC
CONCLUSIONS Within a dedicated AF centre, maze surgery grants excellent outcomes, with symptoms relief and negligible risk. It provides a complete reversal of arrhythmia-related myocardial dysfunction and is therefore a convenient alternative to His bundle ablation and lifelong pacemaker dependency in symptomatic refractory patients.

Conventional Versus Minimally Invasive Aortic Valve Replacement: Pooled Analysis of Propensity‐Matched Data
ConclusionMinimally invasive aortic valve replacement can be performed safely despite the longer ischemic time. While minimally invasive surgery does demonstrate some advantages in postoperative recovery, we failed to find any other substantial improvement in outcome over conventional aortic valve replacement.
