Stroke profile and care during the COVID-19 pandemic: What changed and what did not? A prospective cohort from Joinville, Brazil
This study aims to investigate the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on stroke profile and care in Joinville, Brazil.MethodsA prospective population-based cohort enrolled the first-ever cerebrovascular events in Joinville, Brazil, and a comparative analyzes was conducted between the first 12 months following COVID-19 restrictions (starting March 2020) and the 12 months just before. Patients with transient ischemic attack (TIA) or stroke had their profiles, incidences, subtypes, severity, access to reperfusion therapy, in-hospital stay, complementary investigation, and mortality compared.ResultsThe profiles of TIA/stroke patients...

Laterality of Pneumonia in Acute Stroke
Conclusion: We found an association between severe paresis of the lower limb (MRC ≤2) and ipsilateral pneumonia. We hypothesize that the proximity between the diaphragmatic and inferior limb corticospinal pathways could be the reason for this association.Eur Neurol 2017;77:75-79

Residual Thromboembolic Material in Cerebral Arteries after Endovascular Stroke Therapy Can Be Identified by Dual-Energy CT ADULT BRAIN
CONCLUSIONS: Dual-energy CT may be valuable in the detection of clot persistence or early re-thrombosis without the necessity of additional contrast administration. However, its relevance for the prediction of outcomes remains to be determined in further studies.

Higher agreement in endovascular treatment decision-making than in parametric quantifications among automated CT perfusion software packages in acute ischemic stroke
CONCLUSIONS: Despite quantitative differences in estimates of infarct core, penumbra, and mismatch using 4 software packages, their impact on radiologists' decisions about EVT is relatively small.PMID:34334443 | DOI:10.3233/XST-210898

Deep symmetric three-dimensional convolutional neural networks for identifying acute ischemic stroke via diffusion-weighted images
CONCLUSIONS: DeepSym-3D-CNN is a potential method for automatically identifying AIS via DWI images and can be extended to other diseases with asymmetric lesions.PMID:33967077 | DOI:10.3233/XST-210861
