Introduction Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a prevalent disease considerably contributing to the worldwide cardiovascular burden. For patients at high thromboembolic risk (CHA2DS2-VASc ≥3) and not suitable for chronic oral anticoagulation, owing to history of major bleeding or other contraindications, left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) is indicated for stroke prevention, as it lowers patient’s ischaemic burden without augmentation in their anticoagulation profile. Access to stroke care in Europe: results of a vignette approach
ConclusionsWhile stroke related services are formally covered in almost all countries, considerable access problems exist in several countries. Future cross-country surveys of access to stroke care should collect quantitative data related to proportions of patients receiving particular services as well as qualitative data on access barriers.

The effect of physical activity on mortality and cardiovascular disease in 130  000 people from 17 high-income, middle-income, and low-income countries: the PURE study
We examined whether different amounts and types of physical activity are associated with lower mortality and CVD in countries at different economic levels. Methods In this prospective cohort study, we recruited participants from 17 countries (Canada, Sweden, United Arab Emirates, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Poland, Turkey, Malaysia, South Africa, China, Colombia, Iran, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Zimbabwe). Antiplatelet and anticoagulant therapy in elderly people with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Poland (based on the PolSenior Study).
CONCLUSIONS: Cardiovascular pharmacological prevention in the elderly with T2DM in Poland seems to be unsatisfactory. Educational programmes concerning current recommendations for pharmacological cardiovascular prevention should be developed among general practitioners. PMID: 28883841 [PubMed]

Improvement of survival in Polish stroke patients is related to reduced stroke severity and better control of risk factors: the Krakow Stroke Database.
