One-Year Incidence, Time Trends, and Predictors of Recurrent Ischemic Stroke in Sweden From 1998 to 2010 Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—The risk of recurrent ischemic stroke decreased from 1998 to 2010. Well-known risk factors for stroke were associated with a higher risk of ischemic stroke recurrence; whereas, secondary preventive medication was associated with a reduced risk, emphasizing the importance of secondary preventive treatment.

Antithrombotic Therapy After Acute Ischemic Stroke in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Contrary to current guidelines, 30% of patients with atrial fibrillation and recent IS are not prescribed any OAC therapy on discharge, whereas a further 30% are prescribed combination OAC and antiplatelet therapy. Combination OAC and antiplatelet therapy in patients at high cardiovascular risk requires evaluation in clinical trials, particularly with the newer OACs, given their more favorable risk–benefit ratio compared with warfarin.

Rivaroxaban Versus Dabigatran or Warfarin in Real-World Studies of Stroke Prevention in Atrial Fibrillation Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—In this systematic review and meta-analysis, rivaroxaban was as effective as dabigatran, but was more effective than warfarin for the prevention of stroke/thromboembolism in atrial fibrillation patients. Major bleeding risk was significantly higher with rivaroxaban than with dabigatran, as was all-cause mortality and gastrointestinal bleeding. Rivaroxaban was comparable to warfarin for major bleeding, with an increased risk in gastrointestinal bleeding and decreased risk of intracranial hemorrhage.

Warfarin versus Aspirin for Prevention of Stroke in Heart Failure: A Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Clinical Trials

Conclusion This study has found that warfarin was associated with an increased risk of ischaemic stroke during the first 30 days of treatment. After 30 days of treatment, warfarin was associated with a decreased risk of stroke. Abstract 223: National and Regional Trends in Hospitalizations for Hemorrhagic Stroke after Acute Myocardial Infarction in the United States: 1999-2010 Poster Session II
Conclusions: From 1999 to 2010, the overall hospitalization rates of hemorrhagic stroke after AMI were relatively stable without significant changes across all subgroups. Thirty-day mortality rates remained largely unchanged over time. Stroke risk in the stroke belt was not found significantly higher comparing with non-stroke belt states.
