Conclusions— For secondary stroke prevention, elevated NT-proBNP concentrations may identify a subgroup of ischemic stroke patients without known atrial fibrillation, about 5% based on the current study, who may benefit more from anticoagulants than antiplatelet agents. Outcomes for people with atrial fibrillation in an Australian national audit of stroke care
ConclusionsHospital processes of care can influence outcomes in stroke patients with atrial fibrillation. The greater in‐hospital mortality experienced by stroke patients with atrial fibrillation may be attenuated by admission to a stroke unit, and for ischemic stroke, early administration of aspirin.

Incidence, Trends, and Predictors of Ischemic Stroke 1 Year After an Acute Myocardial Infarction Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— The risk of ischemic stroke within a year after myocardial infarction is substantial but has clearly been reduced during the studied time period. The major predictive factors found to correlate well with previous investigations. Reperfusion treatment, thrombocyte aggregation inhibition, and lipid lowering are the main contributors to the observed risk reduction.

Ischemic Stroke and Intracranial Hemorrhage With Aspirin, Dabigatran, and Warfarin: Impact of Quality of Anticoagulation Control Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— In Chinese patients with atrial fibrillation, the benefits of warfarin therapy for stroke prevention and ICH risk are closely dependent on the quality of anticoagulation, as reflected by TTR. Even at the top TTR quartile, warfarin was associated with a higher stroke and ICH risk than dabigatran.

Some light in the shadows of atrial fibrillation and stroke: To look or not to look
In ischemic stroke, the diagnostic workup determines the best preventive strategy. However, cryptogenic stroke accounts for about 20%–40% of all strokes.1 For these patients, the best preventive treatment remains unknown, and most guidelines recommend risk factor modification and antiplatelet therapy. Given the substantial recurrence rate for cryptogenic stroke, this is not a comfortable situation: just try to tell your stroke patients, "After all these tests, I do not have any clue why you had a stroke"; and about the treatment, "Just take an aspirin and cross fingers you do not have another one."
