Does Preoperative Sinus Rhythm Influence Surgical Ablation's Perioperative Safety in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation?
CONCLUSIONS: Concomitant SA in AF patients presenting in SR before cardiac surgery is safe, has a low perioperative risk profile, and should be carried out with almost no exceptions.PMID:34623251 | DOI:10.1532/hsf.3995

Predicting Hospital Readmissions from Health Insurance Claims Data: A Modeling Study Targeting Potentially Inappropriate Prescribing
CONCLUSION: PIP successfully predicted readmissions for most diseases, opening the possibility for interventions to improve these modifiable risk factors. Machine-learning methods appear promising for future modeling of PIP predictors in complex older patients with many underlying diseases.PMID:35144291 | DOI:10.1055/s-0042-1742671

Current status of antithrombotic therapy and in-hospital outcomes in patients with atrial fibrillation undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention in Germany
CONCLUSION: The preferred therapy after PCI in patients with AF is DAT with a NOAC and clopidogrel. In-hospital ischemic and bleeding events were rare. The recommended durations for combination therapy vary considerably.PMID:35243515 | DOI:10.1007/s00059-022-05099-6

Catheter ablation of supraventricular tachycardia in patients with and without structural heart disease: insights from the German ablation registry
ConclusionPatients with and without SHD undergoing SVT ablation exhibit similar success rates and low major complication rates, despite disadvantageous baseline characteristics in SHD patients. These data highlight the safety and efficacy of SVT ablation in patients with and without SHD. Nevertheless Kaplan –Meier mortality estimates at 1 year demonstrate a significant mortality increase in patients with SHD, highlighting the importance of treating the underlying condition and reliable anticoagulation if indicated.

Vitamin-K-antagonist phenprocoumon versus low-dose direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in patients with atrial fibrillation: a real-world analysis of German claims data
For stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF), direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) have been increasingly prescribed instead of vitamin-K-antagonists (VKA). For some patients a lower dosage of...

PR interval duration is associated with the presence of white matter hyperintensities: Insights from the epidemiologic LIFE-Adult Study
We examined the relationship between MRI and ECG measures and adjusted them for clinical risk factors. ResultsWe included 2464 individuals (age 59 ±15 years, 47% women) into analyses. The median PR interval was 160ms (interquartile range 143–179), and 319 (13%) individuals with advanced WMHs, were significantly older, had more cardiovascular comorbidities and risk factors compared to individuals without WMHs (all p

Impact of Procedure Volume on the Outcomes of Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement
Conclusion Patients treated in very low volume centers (≤25 operations/year) had a similar risk regarding in-hospital mortality and most complications compared with very high-volume centers (>100 operations/year). Only in the case of acute kidney injury, very high-volume centers showed better outcomes than very low volume centers. Therefore, surgical aortic valve replacement can be performed safely independent of case volume.
