Foot and ankle impairments affect balance and mobility in stroke (FAiMiS): the views and experiences of people with stroke.

Chronic Pain
This issue of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinics of North America deals with strategies for evaluating and treating chronic pain. Physiatrists need skill in managing chronic pain because they encounter it frequently. Some physiatrists focus their clinical practices on patients who have pain as their major reason for seeking health care. These include physiatrists who work at pain centers, and ones who focus on the management of spinal disorders. Other physiatrists treat patients who are disabled by conditions that are not necessarily painful, such as spinal cord injury and stroke.

Pain in stroke patients: characteristics and impact on the rehabilitation treatment. A multicenter cross-sectional study.
CONCLUSIONS: The results from this multicenter study showed that in about ΒΌ of the patients, pain negatively influenced the rehabilitation program delaying the recovery and likely increasing the cost of rehabilitation. CLINICAL REHABILITATION IMPACT: Clinicians should pay more attention to pain, especially neuropathic pain, in post--stroke patients. Tailored pharmacological therapy, to treat and prevent pain, might improve patients' compliance during the rehabilitation process. PMID: 25739508 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
