Different Risk Profiles of European Patients Using Direct Oral Anticoagulants or Vitamin K Antagonists: a Rapid Review
AbstractPurpose of ReviewWe investigated the risk profiles of patients using direct oral anticoagulants (DOAC) or vitamin K antagonists (VKA) in European cohort studies to estimate the importance of potential (measured or unmeasured) confounding factors in analyses comparing these drugs. We searched MEDLINE and EMBASE (2008 –2018) for relevant studies and extracted information on age, sex, comorbidity, Charlson comorbidity index, HAS-BLED score (assessing risk of bleeding) and CHA2DS2-VASc score (assessing risk of stroke).Recent FindingsOverall, 66 studies with 2,808,757 patients were included. Most patients were from Fr...

Prevalence of severe cardiovascular disease in patients with schizophrenia
CONCLUSION: Patients with schizophrenia develop severe CV disease requiring hospitalization at an early age. These severe events are associated with a high prevalence of risk factors. Early screening and treatment of CV disease and risk factors is important to improve life expectancy and quality of life of these patients.PMID:34024498 | DOI:10.1016/j.encep.2021.02.008

Prevalence and Incidence of Cardiovascular and Renal Diseases in Type 1 Compared with Type 2 Diabetes: A Nationwide French Observational Study of Hospitalized Patients
CONCLUSIONS: Although the crude prevalent burden of CV diseases may be lower in T1DM than in T2DM, patients with T1DM may have a higher risk of incident MI, HF, all-cause death and CV death above 60 years of age, highlighting the need for improved prevention in this population.PMID:36736892 | DOI:10.1016/j.diabet.2023.101429
