Janssen Highlights Continued Commitment to Cardiovascular & Metabolic Healthcare Solutions with Late-Breaking Data at the First Fully Virtual American College of Cardiology Scientific Session
RARITAN, N.J., March 20, 2020 – The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson announced today that it will unveil late-breaking data from its leading cardiovascular and metabolism portfolio during the virtual American College of Cardiology’s 69th Annual Scientific Session together with the World Congress of Cardiology (ACC.20/WCC) on March 28-30, 2020. Notably, four late-breaking abstracts for XARELTO® (rivaroxaban) will be presented, including data from the Phase 3 VOYAGER PAD study in patients with symptomatic peripheral artery disease (PAD) after lower-extremity revascularization.Click to Tweet: Jan...

Can Patent Foramen Ovales Cause Problems?
Discussion During fetal development, the heart primum and secundum septa grow and overlap leaving a small but important channel between the two atria. The foramen ovale is a flap valve moving blood from the right atrium into the left atrium directly and bypassing the high pressure pulmonary system. After birth and breathing air, the neonate’s lungs open up and the pulmonary vascular resistance decreases. The left atrium now has a relatively higher pressure than the right atria, and therefore pressure on the flap valve closes the foramen ovale. Usually within 6-12 months, the fusion of the primum and secundum of the f...

SOURCE 3: 1-year outcomes post-transcatheter aortic valve implantation using the latest generation of the balloon-expandable transcatheter heart valve
ConclusionIn SOURCE 3, we observe a low complication rate and mortality at 1  year. Given the low incidence of higher degree paravalvular leakages, this variable did no longer affect outcome. Clinicaltrial.gov number: NCT02698956.

Use of the ClearSight ® System for Continuous Noninvasive Hemodynamic Monitoring during Heart Valve Interventions: Review of the Literature and Single-Site Experience.
Use of the ClearSight® System for Continuous Noninvasive Hemodynamic Monitoring during Heart Valve Interventions: Review of the Literature and Single-Site Experience. Heart Surg Forum. 2018 Nov 14;21(6):E476-E483 Authors: Gellert G, Bramlage P Abstract During interventional and structural cardiology procedures, such as mitral valve (MitraClip, BMV), aortic valve (TAVR, BAV), tricuspid valve (MitraClip), left atrial appendage (Watchman, Lariat), atrial septum (ASD/PFO closure), and coronary artery intervention (high-risk PCI), among others, patients are at a high risk of hemodynamic instability and re...

Preventable Cases of Oral Anticoagulant-Induced Bleeding: Data From the Spontaneous Reporting System
Conclusion: Our findings describe the most reported risk factors for preventability of oral anticoagulant-induced bleedings. These factors may be useful for targeting interventions to improve pharmacovigilance activities in our regional territory and to reduce the burden of medication errors and inappropriate prescription. Introduction Oral anticoagulant therapy is widely used for the prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with atrial fibrillation, or for the prevention and treatment of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism (Raj et al., 1994; Monaco et al., 2017). Oral anticoagulants can be di...

Preventing brain embolism by using a modified isolation technique in transcatheter aortic valve implantation for a patient with shaggy and porcelain aorta
We report a case of TAVI in a shaggy and porcelain aorta and prevention of cerebral embolism by adopting a modified isolation technique without using conventional protection devices.>

An autopsy case of aortic root rupture with thin porcelain aorta during balloon-expandable transcatheter aortic valve implantation
We present a case of aortic root rupture caused by unusually fragile aortic wall during TAVI and the lesson from the autopsy results.>

Long-standing persistent effects of atrial volume reduction combined with pulmonary vein isolation
Publication date: Available online 18 June 2018 Source:Journal of Cardiology Cases Author(s): Masami Takagaki, Naoko Ikeda, Hiroki Yamaguchi, Shinichi Mitsuyama, Tasuku Kadowaki, Tatsuya Nakao Although surgical left atrial (LA) volume reduction combined with mitral valve surgery and/or surgical ablation for atrial fibrillation has been reported to be effective, its long-term outcomes in the absence of mitral procedure are not well established. A 74-year-old man with two previous sternotomies—the first for pericardiectomy due to constrictive pericarditis and the second for mitral valve replacement with mechanical valve a...
