Current status and future perspective of structural heart disease intervention.
Abstract Valvular heart diseases are one of the most frequent causes for heart failure. Degenerative diseases of the aortic and mitral valve as well as a dysfunctional tricuspid valve disease result in a worse clinical outcome if severe. Minimal-invasive, surgical and/or catheter-based structural heart disease (SHD) interventions have recently seen a dramatic increase. Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) for severe aortic stenosis (AS) is a disruptive technology, and next generation devices and careful patient selection will minimize limitations of TAVI such as paravalvular leak, conductance disturbance...

MicroRNAs: Emerging biomarkers for atrial fibrillation.
Abstract Atrial fibrillation (AF) causes severe cardiac dysrhythmia among patients with cardiovascular diseases. AF increases the risk of stroke and heart failure and is a growing public health concern. AF is also associated with various disease conditions such as hypertension, coronary artery disease, aging, and diabetes mellitus. The mechanism underlying AF is not completely understood due to its complexity. However, experimental and clinical data have revealed that the prevalence of this disease is associated with atrial arrhythmogenic remodeling. Currently, there are no biomarkers that are available for the ea...

Ticagrelor versus clopidogrel in acute myocardial infarction patients with multivessel disease; From Korea Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry-National Institute of Health.
CONCLUSION: Ticagrelor significantly reduced the risk of MACE than clopidogrel for AMI patients with MVD in Korea. However, the risk of TIMI major or minor bleeding was higher and the net clinical benefit was similar. Further large-scale multi-center randomized clinical trials are needed to clarify the proper use dual antiplatelet therapy in East Asian populations. Impact of left ventricular diastolic dysfunction on long-term outcome in patients with lower extremity artery disease.
CONCLUSION: LV diastolic dysfunction increased the risk for MACCE in patients with LEAD. PMID: 31964546 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Prognostic impact of the presence of on-duty cardiologist on patients with acute myocardial infarction admitted during off-hours.
CONCLUSIONS: The presence of an on-duty cardiologist is not a prognostic factor for patients hospitalized for AMI during off-hours in our medical system. Further prospective multicenter studies should confirm our results. PMID: 32199752 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Different prognosis between severe and very severe obstructive sleep apnea patients; Five year outcomes.
CONCLUSIONS: CPAP was effective for preventing cardiovascular disease in patients with severe OSA, however patients with very severe OSA still had a high event rate, indicating that CPAP treatment might be insufficient to reduce the OSA-related risk burden in patients with very severe OSA. Additional systemic medical treatment for CPAP might be needed in patients with very severe OSA. PMID: 32620307 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Independent and cumulative association of clinical and morphological heart failure with long-term outcome after percutaneous coronary intervention.
CONCLUSIONS: Clinical HF and LVSD were independently associated with adverse long-term clinical outcomes, particularly with non-cardiac death and HF readmission, in patients treated with PCI. PMID: 32888830 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Impact of bridge-to-bridge strategies from paracorporeal to implantable left ventricular assist devices on the pre-heart transplant outcome: A single-center analysis of 134 cases.
CONCLUSIONS: The BTB strategy is useful in providing long-term survival in patients with acute critical diseases. However, the early mortality rate after conversion is higher in patients who underwent the BTB strategy. PMID: 33243529 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Clinical impact of serial change in brain natriuretic peptide before and after catheter ablation in patients with atrial fibrillation and heart failure.
CONCLUSION: In patients with AF and HF, poor % BNP reduction was an independent predictor of adverse outcome, although the rate of recurrence of AF was comparable. Serial BNP measurement might help in better identification of high-risk patients in whom sinus rhythm is restored with catheter ablation. PMID: 33248864 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
