Role of Vitamins in Cardiovascular Health: Know Your Facts-Part 2
Curr Vasc Pharmacol. 2023 Sep 11. doi: 10.2174/1570161121666230911115725. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCardiovascular disease (CVD) is a major cause of morbidity/mortality world-wide, hence preventive interventions are crucial. Observational data showing beneficial CV-effects of vitamin supplements, promoted by self-proclaimed experts, have led to ~50% of Americans using multivitamins; this practice has culminated into a multi-billion-dollar business. DL-3-n-butylphthalide improves the endothelium-dependent vasodilation in high-fat diet-fed ApoE < sup > -/- < /sup > mice via suppressing inflammation, endothelial necroptosis and apoptosis
This study aims to explore whether NBP is able to improve endothelium-dependent vasodilation in atherosclerosis and the underlying mechanisms. Male ApoE-/- mice were fed with a high-fat diet (HFD) for 9-16 weeks to establish a model of atherosclerosis. NBP were given to the mice after eating HFD for 6 weeks and atorvastatin served as a positive control. The endothelium-dependent vasodilation, the blood flow velocity, the atherosclerotic lesion area, the serum levels of lipids, inflammatory cytokines and necroptosis-relevant proteins (RIPK1, RIPK3 and MLKL), and the endothelial necroptosis and apoptosis within the aorta wer...

Unripe fruits of Litchi chinensis (Gaertn.) Sonn: An overview of its toxicity
Ann Pharm Fr. 2023 Jul 11:S0003-4509(23)00073-1. doi: 10.1016/j.pharma.2023.07.004. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLitchi (Litchi chinensis) is a widely consumed fruit that has been used in many food and health-promoting products worldwide. Litchi is a good source of nutrients including vitamin and minerals, dietary fibers, proteins, and carbohydrates. Of note, several studies have reported that the constituents of litchi fruits elicit antioxidant properties and help to maintain blood pressure, and reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack. An unclearly explained outbreak occurred in June 2019 in Muzaffarpur (Bihar), India...

Effects of long-term regular oral aspirin combined with atorvastatin to prevent ischemic stroke on human gut microbiota
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings indicated that long-term regular oral aspirin and atorvastatin modulate the human gut microbiota. Taking these drugs may affect the preventive effect of ischemic stroke by changing the abundance of specific gut microbiota.PMID:37201625 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejphar.2023.175800

Trimethylamine N-Oxide as a potential risk factor for non-communicable diseases: A systematic review
CONCLUSION: There is a dose-response relationship between TMAO levels and NCDs progression. Therefore, it can be studied as a therapeutic target or prognostic biomarker for dealing with NCDs.PMID:36330632 | DOI:10.2174/1871530323666221103120410
