Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomal miR-193b-5p reduces pyroptosis after ischemic stroke by targeting AIM2
Ischemic stroke is a frequently occurring cerebrovascular disease (CVD) linked to high mortality, disability, and incidence rates, and the second factor causing global mortality41,3. There are two common sources of embolism in ischamic strokes: large artery atherosclerosis and small artery atherosclerosis. Ischemic stroke can be treated clinically with thrombolytic therapy4. Although ischemic stroke is treatable, post-cerebral ischemia blood reperfusion frequently induces inflammation, oxidative stress (OS) or additional unfavorable events that may exacerbate brain injury20,24.

Hyperperfusion syndrome after superficial temporal artery-middle cerebral artery bypass for non-moyamoya steno-occlusive disease
Stroke is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, and intracranial stenoses increase the risk for stroke. Superficial temporal artery to middle cerebral artery bypass can be beneficial in selected patients with non-moyamoya steno-occlusive disease, however data is limited regarding the postoperative occurrence of hyperperfusion syndrome in this population. This case series describes the outcomes and complications, including hyperperfusion, in these patients who underwent bypass.

Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability in the United States, with approximately 795,000 new strokes occurring annually, including acute ischemic stroke (AIS), intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), and subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH).1 The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has impacted all levels of care for stroke patients, such as delays in initial presentation, reduction in acute therapies, limitations of in-patient resources, delays or lack of initiation of secondary stroke prevention therapy, and limitations in rehabilitation services after hospital discharge.

Short-term beneficial effects of human dental pulp stem cells and their secretome in a rat model of mild ischemic stroke
Although cell therapy has been applied in regenerative medicine for decades, recent years have seen greatly increased attention being given to the use of stem cell-based derivatives such as cell-free secretome. Dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) are widely available, easily accessible, and have high neuroprotective and angiogenic properties. In addition, DPSC-derived secretome contains a rich mixture of trophic factors. The current investigation evaluated the short-term therapeutic effects of human DPSCs and their secretome in a rat model of mild ischemic stroke.

Cerebral autosomal recessive arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CARASIL) is an extremely rare hereditary cerebral small vessel disease caused by homozygous or compound heterozygous mutations in the gene coding for high-temperature requirement A serine peptidase 1 (HtrA1). Given the rare nature of the disease, delays in diagnosis and misdiagnosis are not uncommon. In this article, we reported the first case of CARASIL from Saudi Arabia with a novel homozygous variant c.1156C>T in exon 7 of the HTRA1 gene.

Blood group and ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, and peripheral vascular disease: A meta-analysis of over 145,000 cases and 2,000,000 controls
The ABO blood groups have been associated with the pathophysiology of cardiovascular diseases through an influence on two important blood clotting proteins, von Willebrand factor (vWF) and factor FVIII levels (FVIII).1,2 These proteins circulate in the plasma as a complex and are vital in normal haemostasis.1 The highest levels of FVIII and VWF are seen in non-O blood groups. Studies suggest a relationship between non-O blood groups and an increased risk of venous thromboembolism and other thrombotic episodes.
