Plasma growth differentiation factor 15 predicts first-ever stroke in hypertensive patients
The objective of this study was to evaluate the clinical implications of plasma GDF-15 on the development of first-ever stroke in patients with hypertension.
In total, 254 patients with hypertension without a history of stroke were included from March 2010 to August 2010 and followed up until June 2013. The baseline circulating GDF-15 was determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays.

Association of smoking with risk of stroke in middle-aged and older Chinese: Evidence from the China National Stroke Prevention Project
This study aimed to investigate the association between smoking and risk of stroke in middle-aged and older Chinese adults, based on the data from the China National Stroke Prevention Project.

The role of hydroxyurea to prevent silent stroke in sickle cell disease: Systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion:
Our findings suggest that hydroxyurea is safe and may prevent silent stroke and stroke in sickle cell disease. More high-quality studies including RCTs are needed.

The population attributable risk and clustering of stroke risk factors in different economical regions of China
The greatest regional variation in stroke prevalence exists in China. However, whether there are differences in population attributable risk (PAR) and clustering of stroke risk factors among regions resulting in stroke geographic variation is unclear.
We conducted face-to-face surveys of residents of 14 provinces from September 2016 to May 2017 who participated in the Chinese Stroke Screening and Prevention Project. We compared the specific PAR values of eight risk factors and the different cluster rates and patterns in China.

The effectiveness of home-based therapy on functional outcome, self-efficacy and anxiety among discharged stroke survivors
This study will provide the information on the effectiveness of HBT in comparison to UP among stroke population who are discharged from rehabilitation. Findings from the study will enable rehabilitation professionals to design effective discharge care plan for stroke survivors in combating functional decline when no longer receiving hospital-based therapy.
