Systematic review with network meta-analysis: Diagnostic values of ultrasonography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging in patients with ischemic stroke
Conclusion: This network meta-analysis provides supporting evidence to the idea that DWI has a higher diagnostic value regarding ischemic stroke among MRI methods, and CTP has a poor diagnostic value among CT methods, which provide therapeutic considerations for Ischemic stroke intervention.

Ginkgol Biloba extract as an adjunctive treatment for ischemic stroke: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials
Conclusions: GBE appears to improve neurological function and dependence compared with conventional therapy for ischemic stroke at different stages and appears generally safe for clinical application. The lack of improvement in recurrence rate was confirmed by trial sequential analysis. Due to the generally weak evidence, further large, rigorous trials are warranted.

FLAIR vascular hyperintensity-DWI mismatch most likely to benefit from recanalization and good outcome after stroke
We assessed the value of fluid-attenuated inversion recovery vascular hyperintensity (FVH)-diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) mismatch in predicting revascularization and functional outcome in stroke patients with large vessel occlusion (LVO) after endovascular thrombectomy (EVT). Seventy-two acute stroke patients within 6 hour of stroke onset who received EVT were enrolled. FVH-DWI mismatch, revascularization (mTICI score), functional outcome (mRS at 3 months) and other clinical data were collected. Statistical analysis was performed to predict revascularization and functional outcome after stroke. Twenty-nine patients ...

The effect of transcranial direct current stimulation of pharyngeal motor cortex on swallowing function in patients with chronic dysphagia after stroke: A retrospective cohort study
About 11% to 13% of patients with acute dysphagia induced by stroke remain chronic dysphagia 6 months after stroke which usually leads to many severe complications and poor quality of life. To investigate the effect of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on swallowing function in the patients with chronic dysphagia after stroke. 26 post-stroke patients with chronic dysphagia who received tDCS were identified by electronic medical records between July 2016 and April 2018. Of which, 13 were treated by unilateral hemispheric anodal tDCS at affected pharyngeal motor cortex. 13 eligible patients only treated by con...

Association between red cell distribution width level and risk of stroke: A systematic review and meta-analysis of prospective studies
Background: Red cell distribution width level may have relations with the incidence and prognosis of cerebrovascular diseases. Recent researches have reported that red cell distribution width level was linked to the occurrence of stroke. However, the predicted effect of red cell distribution width in stroke is still disputed. We sought to assess the relationship between red cell distribution width and risk of stroke in this meta-analysis. Methods: Relevant studies were picked out from the databases of Embase, PubMed, and Cochrane Library. Hazard ratio with 95% confidence interval was chosen to analyze each trial, whic...

Evaluation of H-type hypertension prevalence and its influence on the risk of increased carotid intima-media thickness among a high-risk stroke population in Hainan Province, China
H-type hypertension, defined as a combination of hypertension and hyperhomocysteinemia (Hhcy), is associated with atherosclerosis and, therefore, increased stroke risk. However, the role of hypertension and Hhcy in high-risk stroke populations has not been studied. The present study investigated the prevalence of H-type hypertension in a high-risk stroke population of Hainan Province, China and to assess possible joint effects between hypertension and Hhcy for increased carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT). In this community-based cross-sectional study, 959 high-risk stroke subjects (age, 65.8 ± 10.8 years; 46.6% men...

Long non-coding RNAs expression profile and functional analysis of acute ischemic stroke
Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been evidenced to be associated with the development of multiple diseases. However, the expression pattern and function of lncRNAs in acute ischemic stroke remain unclear. To determine the differential expression of lncRNAs in acute ischemic stroke, we analyzed the expression profile of lncRNAs by high-throughput sequencing analysis. Gene Ontology (GO) and pathway analyses were employed to analyze the gene function and identify enriched pathways of the differentially expressed lncRNAs. We also built an lncRNA-mRNA expression correlation network and verified the interactions of selected l...

Effect of acupuncture treatment on post-stroke cognitive impairment: A randomized controlled trial
Introduction: Post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI), which has a high morbidity, is closely associated with the recurrence and rehabilitation of ischemic stroke. There are 2 different stages of PSCI, including post-stroke cognitive impairment with no dementia (PSCIND) and post-stroke dementia (PSD). The latter has a significantly higher mortality rate than the previous one. Therefore, preventing the onset of PSD is of vital importance. However, there is no unequivocally effective prevention or treatment for PSCI, except intensive secondary prevention of stroke. The primary aim of this protocol is to explore whether a...
