Embolic stroke of undetermined source and patent foramen ovale closure: Practice insights from meta ‐analysis?
Key Points Closure of patent foramen ovale (PFO) in embolic stroke of undetermined source (ESUS) reduces recurrent stroke compared with antiplatelet therapy in select patients but increases risk of atrial fibrillation. Device closure is an attractive option for young patients with an anatomically higher risk PFO and imaging proven ESUS. Benefit of PFO closure in ESUS compared with oral anticoagulation remains undefined.

ConclusionThe Occlutech device appears to be safe at long ‐term FU with a very low annual cerebrovascular event rate and a low moderate to large shunt rate at 1‐year FU.

Effect of prior stroke on long ‐term outcomes of percutaneous coronary interventions in Chinese patients: A large single‐center study
ConclusionsPrior stroke history was the only predictor of risk of post ‐PCI stroke. The noncerebrovascular adverse events were not increased after adjusted analyses of baseline characteristics and propensity analyses.

Long ‐term results of carotid stenting and risk factors in patients with severe carotid artery stenosis undergoing subsequent cardiac surgery
ConclusionsIn this study with staged CAS followed by cardiac surgery, we confirm previously reported event ‐free survival rates and identify several risk factors for the composite outcome. Future studies are needed to confirm the importance of the identified risk factors and to assess their predictive ability.

In ‐hospital outcomes of transcatheter versus surgical aortic valve replacement in non‐teaching hospitals
ConclusionsTAVR conferred similar in ‐hospital mortality and major peri‐procedural complications compared with SAVR in non‐teaching hospitals. For those with limited access to teaching hospitals, non‐teaching hospitals appear to be a reasonable option for candidates of aortic valve replacement for severe aortic stenosis.

Comparison of single versus dual antiplatelet therapy after TAVR: A systematic review and meta ‐analysis
ConclusionIn this small meta‐analysis of DAPT versus SAPT after TAVR, DAPT did not prevent stroke, myocardial infarction or death while the risk of bleeding was higher. Results from ongoing trials are awaited to determine the best anti‐thrombotic approach after TAVR.

Transcatheter versus surgical aortic valve replacement in patients at low surgical risk: A meta ‐analysis of randomized trials and propensity score matched observational studies
ConclusionsIn patients who are at low surgical risk, TAVR seems to be associated with increased mortality risk. Until more data in this population is available, SAVR should remain the treatment of choice for these patients.

Prospective, randomized comparison of 3 ‐dimensional computed tomography guidance versus TEE data for left atrial appendage occlusion (PRO3DLAAO)
ConclusionIn this single‐center pilot study, CT guided LAAO case planning was associated with improved device selection accuracy and procedural efficiency. This study data supports the notion that comprehensive 3D assessment significantly simplifies LAAO, minimizing the time and number of steps needed.

Carotid artery stenting followed by open heart surgery in 323 patients: One ‐year results and influencing factors
ConclusionsCAS followed by OHS is a safe and effective treatment for patients with concomitant carotid and cardiac disease within 1‐year follow up. The interval between CAS and OHS, congestive heart failure, and renal insufficiency could obviously influence the 1‐year results.
