Impact of Glomerular filtration rate on clinical outcomes after carotid artery revascularization in 11,832 patients from the CARE registry
ConclusionsPatients with CKD have a greater number of comorbidities and worse unadjusted in‐hospital and 30‐day outcomes; CKD was not, however, an independent predictor of in‐hospital and 30‐day outcomes after carotid artery revascularization. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Is postdilatation useful after implantation of the Edwards valve?
Conclusions: PD for the treatment of significant paravalvular leak proved to be a feasible treatment allowing a significant increase in valve size and decrease in PVL without increase in stroke rates. This promising approach needs further confirmation. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Association of Ischemic Stroke, Hormone Therapy, and Right to Left Shunt in Postmenopausal Women
Conclusions Approximately 20% of older women have a right to left shunt. Hormone therapy in these women may increase the risk of ischemic stroke by promoting paradoxical embolism. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Feasibility and efficacy of the 2.5 L and 3.8 L impella percutaneous left ventricular support device during high‐risk, percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with severe aortic stenosis
ConclusionImplantation of the 2.5 and 3.8 L Impella appears feasible in patients with severe AS and left ventricle (LV) impairment. A balloon‐assist technique may be used to facilitate device implantation when initial unassisted attempts fail. Improved hemodynamic stability may enhance the tolerability of lengthy and complex procedures. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Results of percutaneous closure of patent foramen ovale with the GORE® septal occluder
ConclusionPFO closure with the GSO is accompanied by a high technical success rate and closure rates similar to other currently used devices. The incidence of AF was higher than reported with most other devices. This may be a chance finding but warrants further investigation in larger trials. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Cost‐effectiveness of percutaneous coronary intervention with drug‐eluting stents in patients with multivessel coronary artery disease compared to coronary artery bypass surgery 5 years after intervention
Conclusions. Cost‐effectiveness analysis of DES‐PCI vs. CABG demonstrated that CABG is the most effective, but most costly, treatment for preventing MACCE in patients with multivessel disease. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Safety of percutaneous left atrial appendage closure with the amplatzer cardiac plug in patients with atrial fibrillation and contraindications to anticoagulation
Conclusion: Percutaneous LAA closure with the ACP in patients with contraindications to oral anticoagulation is safe. The stroke and bleeding risk after percutaneous LAA closure is lower than predicted by conventional risk scores. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Successful closure of residual leak following lariat procedure in a patient with high risk of stroke and hemorrhage
Percutaneous left atrial appendage suture ligation with the LARIAT® device (Sentre HEART, Redwood City, CA) was successfully performed on an 84‐year‐old woman with non‐valvular atrial fibrillation who developed intracranial hemorrhage on warfarin. However, a large gap developed at follow‐up precluding warfarin cessation. To the best of our knowledge, this case report represents the first description of the use of a Gore® Helex® Septal Occluder (W. L. Gore and Associates, Newark, Delaware) as a novel approach to close a gap following percutaneous LAA suture ligation. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Feasibility and safety of transfemoral implantation of Edwards SAPIEN XT prosthesis without balloon valvuloplasty in severe stenosis of native aortic valve
ConclusionsDirect implantation of Edwards SAPIEN XT without prior BV in selected cases is feasible and safe. The number of patients in whom this technique would be applicable, and their impact on reducing complications has to be determined. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Significance of the learning curve in left atrial appendage occlusion with two different devices
Conclusions: Complications associated with LAA occlusion cluster early in the periprocedural period and significantly decrease in frequency with operator experience. Initial experience gained with one of device may improve outcome with use of alternative LAA occlusion devices. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
