Effect of prior stroke on long ‐term outcomes of percutaneous coronary interventions in Chinese patients: A large single‐center study
ConclusionsPrior stroke history was the only predictor of risk of post ‐PCI stroke. The noncerebrovascular adverse events were not increased after adjusted analyses of baseline characteristics and propensity analyses.

Association of Ischemic Stroke, Hormone Therapy, and Right to Left Shunt in Postmenopausal Women

Incidence and clinical impact of stroke complicating transcatheter aortic valve implantation: Results from the German TAVI registry
ConclusionsStroke complicating TAVI is a serious complication with a clinically relevant incidence even in daily practice leading to a fivefold increase in 30‐day‐mortality rate, as well as a significant increase in morbidity and disability in patients, who survive this devastating complication. Further research is needed to identify risk factors and ways to reduce stroke after TAVI. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Patent foramen ovale closure following cryptogenic stroke or transient ischaemic attack: Long‐term follow‐up of 301 cases
Patent foramen ovale has been identified as a conduit for paradoxical embolism resulting in cryptogenic stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA). We aimed to establish rates of death, recurrent stroke or TIA among patients undergoing PFO closure for stroke or TIA at our unit. A retrospective analysis of all PFO closure patients was performed between May 2004 and January 2013. Follow up was performed by mortality tracing using the Medical Research Information Service of the Office of National Statistics. Transcatheter closure of patent foramen ovale for secondary prevention of ischemic stroke: Quantitative synthesis of pooled randomized trial data
ConclusionsBased on the results of this analysis of randomized trial data, percutaneous PFO closure appears to be a safe and effective therapeutic option for the secondary prevention of ischemic stroke in patients with PFO and cryptogenic stroke.

Initial experience with the novel patent foramen ovale occlusion device Nit‐Occlud® in patients with stroke or transient ischemic attack
ConclusionIn patients with cryptogenic stroke or TIA and a PFO, the Nit‐Occlud® PFO Occlusion Device appears to be both a safe and effective means to occlude the PFO. It is associated with high procedural success and favorable rates of complete closure. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

ConclusionsThere is an important need for prospective real‐world clinical data of catheter‐based LAA occlusion given the increasing application of this intervention. The present global real‐world registry will expand our knowledge on peri‐procedural and long‐term outcome of catheter‐based LAA occlusion using a second generation occlusion device.

Embolic stroke of undetermined source and patent foramen ovale closure: Practice insights from meta ‐analysis?
Key Points Closure of patent foramen ovale (PFO) in embolic stroke of undetermined source (ESUS) reduces recurrent stroke compared with antiplatelet therapy in select patients but increases risk of atrial fibrillation. Device closure is an attractive option for young patients with an anatomically higher risk PFO and imaging proven ESUS. Benefit of PFO closure in ESUS compared with oral anticoagulation remains undefined.

The interval between carotid artery stenting and open heart surgery is related to perioperative complications
ConclusionsOur findings indicate that CAS followed by OHS is safe and feasible. More importantly, an interval between CAS and OHS of >5 days may decrease periprocedural complications, especially major stroke and neurological death. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
