Impact of glomerular filtration rate on clinical outcomes following carotid artery revascularization in 11,832 patients from the care registry®
Conclusions: CKD patients have a greater number of comorbidities, and worse unadjusted in‐hospital and 30‐day outcomes, CKD was not, however, an independent predictor of in‐hospital and 30‐day outcomes after carotid artery revascularization. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Residual shunting after percutaneous pfo closure: How to manage and how to close
ConclusionsSignificant residual shunts can be successfully closed by using a second device. Care is required to select an optimal device depending on anatomy and original device. In some subjects, lack of endothelial covering account for the persistence of a significant residual shunting. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Unprotected carotid artery stenting in modern practice
Conclusions: Patients selected to undergo unprotected CAS in contemporary practice have high rates of adverse pre‐procedure neurologic risk factors. Our propensity‐matched analysis did not demonstrate evidence of significant benefit or harm associated with use of distal filter EPD in elective CAS patients. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Management of patients with patent foramen ovale and cryptogenic stroke
Conclusions: Available data provided the basis for a shared approach to management of cryptogenic ischemic cerebral events and PFO among different Italian scientific societies. Wider international initiatives on the topic are awaited. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Volume–outcomes relationship in the Era of modern coronary intervention—results from the prospective multicenter German DES.DE Registry
ConclusionsIn the era of modern coronary intervention technological advances such as DES have not offset the inverse relation between procedural volume and both in‐hospital and 1‐year outcomes after PCI. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Early Results With the LARIAT Device for Left Atrial Appendage Exclusion in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation at High Risk for Stroke and Anticoagulation
Conclusions: These results show that percutaneous LAA exclusion can be achieved successfully with an acceptable rate of periprocedural and short‐term complications. Further studies and longer follow‐up are needed to determine whether LAA exclusion lowers the long‐term risk of thromboembolic events in patients with AF and contraindications to anticoagulation. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

The management of patients with atrial fibrillation undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention with stent implantation: In‐hospital‐data from the Atrial Fibrillation undergoing Coronary Artery Stenting (AFCAS) study
ConclusionsThe majority of AF patients undergoing PCI‐S are at high stroke risk, and therefore VKA treatment should not be withdrawn and combined anticoagulant and antiplatelet treatment is warranted. Current management appears largely in accordance with current recommendations, whereby accounting for the limited occurrence of in‐hospital adverse ischemic and bleeding events. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Learning curve for intracranial angioplasty and stenting in single center
Conclusions: Operator's level of experience significantly affected the outcome of IAS. Moreover, we observed that the amount of experience sufficient for performing IAS in our center was 21 cases. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

The presence of angiographic collaterals in non‐ST elevation myocardial infarction is a predictor of long‐term clinical outcomes
Conclusions: In patients with NSTEMI the presence of angiographic coronary collaterals is a predictor of long‐term clinical outcomes primarily driven by increased rates of surgical revascularization. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Procedural success and long‐term outcomes of aspiration thrombectomy for the treatment of stent thrombosis
Conclusions: Aspiration thrombectomy is associated with improved coronary flow and procedural success but is not associated with improved long‐term outcomes among patients undergoing percutaneous intervention for definite ST. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Carotid artery stenting according to the ‘tailored CAS’ algorithm performed in the very elderly patients – the thirty day outcome
Conclusions: Symptomatic elderly is a group of highest CAS risk and the use of ‘tailored CAS’ algorithm does not equalize CAS risk in this patients' group. ‘Tailored CAS’ remains a safe procedure for asymptomatic elderly as well as symptomatic and asymptomatic young patients. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Patient preferences for coronary artery bypass graft surgery or percutaneous intervention in multivessel coronary artery disease
Conclusion: Patients favor mv‐PCI over CABG to treat mv‐CAD, even if 1‐year risks of death and repeat procedures far exceed risk with CABG. Physicians are more influenced by actual risk and prefer mv‐PCI less than patients despite similarly quoted 1‐year risks. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation without balloon predilation: A single‐center pilot experience
ConclusionsThese results suggest that direct CoreValve implantation in patients with severe aortic stenosis is feasible and may lead to hemodynamic and clinical improvement in patients who are poor candidates for aortic valve surgery, pending confirmation in larger series with longer follow‐up. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
