Incidence and timing of hypotension after transcervical carotid artery stenting: Correlation with postoperative complications
Conclusions Most postoperative hypotension episodes occurred within the first 6 h, and more than one third between the 6 and 12 h post‐procedure. All patients with late hypotension were asymptomatic. There was no difference in complications between the study groups. In patients undergoing ambulatory CAS, hemodynamic monitoring in the postoperative period is particularly important during the first 12 h. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

MitraClip for severe symptomatic mitral regurgitation in patients at high surgical risk
ConclusionBased on high risk MC studies and high risk MVS data predominantly from STS database, patients with severe MR who are at HSR can be effectively treated with MC or MVS. MC can be safely implanted in high risk patients with relatively low mortality and stroke risk. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Prevalence and predictors of carotid artery stenosis in patients with severe aortic stenosis undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation
Conclusions: The prevalence of CAS in patients undergoing TAVI is high, exceeding that observed in patients undergoing catheterization for coronary indications. The impact of CAS on clinical outcomes following TAVI merits further research. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Initial experience with the novel patent foramen ovale occlusion device Nit‐Occlud® PFO in patients with stroke or transient ischemic attack
Conclusion: In patients with cryptogenic stroke or transient ischemic attack and a PFO, the Nit‐Occlud® PFO Occlusion Device appears to be both a safe and effective means to occlude the PFO. It is associated with high procedural success and favorable rates of complete closure. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Carotid artery stenting and patient outcomes: The CABANA surveillance study
Conclusions: CAS with the Carotid WALLSTENT and FilterWire EZ yielded a low 30‐day MAE rate that did not differ significantly across operator experience and training levels. Clinicaltrials.gov identifier: NCT00741091. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Impact of Glomerular filtration rate on clinical outcomes after carotid artery revascularization in 11,832 patients from the CARE registry
ConclusionsPatients with CKD have a greater number of comorbidities and worse unadjusted in‐hospital and 30‐day outcomes; CKD was not, however, an independent predictor of in‐hospital and 30‐day outcomes after carotid artery revascularization. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Is postdilatation useful after implantation of the Edwards valve?
Conclusions: PD for the treatment of significant paravalvular leak proved to be a feasible treatment allowing a significant increase in valve size and decrease in PVL without increase in stroke rates. This promising approach needs further confirmation. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Predicting vascular complications during transfemoral transcatheter aortic valve replacement using computed tomography: A novel area based index
Conclusions: Using CT analysis, an SFAR of 1.45 and an SFAAR of 1.35 are each significant predictors of vascular complications among patients undergoing TF‐TAVR. Utilization of CT‐based area may provide a more accurate screen for patients undergoing evaluation for TF‐TAVR as it takes into consideration the elliptical nature of the vessel. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Cerebral Events and Protection During Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement
Abstract Stroke has emerged as one of the most concerning complications following transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR); associated with high morbidity and mortality. We discuss the potential mechanisms of stroke following TAVR, as well as the newly developed embolic protection devices aimed to reduce the risk of stroke. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Major thrombocytopenia after balloon‐expandable transcatheter aortic valve replacement: Prognostic implications and comparison to surgical aortic valve replacement
Conclusions: Post‐TAVR thrombocytopenia is a common phenomenon and its magnitude appears similar to that seen after SAVR. It is most often transient, not associated with adverse sequelae and, unless persistent, should be managed in an expectant fashion. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Association of Ischemic Stroke, Hormone Therapy, and Right to Left Shunt in Postmenopausal Women
Conclusions Approximately 20% of older women have a right to left shunt. Hormone therapy in these women may increase the risk of ischemic stroke by promoting paradoxical embolism. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Feasibility and efficacy of the 2.5 L and 3.8 L impella percutaneous left ventricular support device during high‐risk, percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with severe aortic stenosis
ConclusionImplantation of the 2.5 and 3.8 L Impella appears feasible in patients with severe AS and left ventricle (LV) impairment. A balloon‐assist technique may be used to facilitate device implantation when initial unassisted attempts fail. Improved hemodynamic stability may enhance the tolerability of lengthy and complex procedures. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Results of percutaneous closure of patent foramen ovale with the GORE® septal occluder
ConclusionPFO closure with the GSO is accompanied by a high technical success rate and closure rates similar to other currently used devices. The incidence of AF was higher than reported with most other devices. This may be a chance finding but warrants further investigation in larger trials. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
