Carotid web: the challenging diagnosis of an under-recognized entity
ConclusionKnowledge of CW and differentiating it from atheroma plaques is essential, as medical management seems to be insufficient in many cases. Revascularization, which has been shown to be safe and effective, might be the best treatment modality.

Small vessel disease and collaterals in ischemic stroke patients treated with thrombectomy
ConclusionOur study provides evidence that in patients with AIS due to LVO treated with MT, the burden of SVD assessed by pre-treatment MRI is associated with poorer recruitment of leptomeningeal collaterals.

Thrombectomy with or without thrombolysis in patients with acute ischemic stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsOutcomes were similar for d-MT and IVT  + MT, with d-MT having a lower risk of any ICH. We need to focus on precision medicine in the future.RegistrationURL:http://inplasy.com; Unique identifier: INPLASY202130094.

Relationship between stroke etiology and collateral status in anterior circulation large vessel occlusion
ConclusionsPreexisting CAS  ≥ 50% was associated with better collateral status in LVO stroke patients. However, functional 90-day outcome was independent from CAS, which could be related to a higher rate of adverse events.

Prediction contribution of the cranial collateral circulation to the clinical and radiological outcome of ischemic stroke
ConclusionThe whole brain collateral vasculature status is clearly associated with clinical and radiological outcome but in a multivariate model seems not sufficiently predictive for FIV, mRS and NIHSS outcome at discharge in non-preselected patients admitted to the emergency department with ischemic stroke.

CT angiography vs echocardiography for detection of cardiac thrombi in ischemic stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsCTA may be a promising alternative to echocardiography for detection of cardiac thrombi in patients with ischemic stroke, especially now that CTA is standard care for patient selection for endovascular treatment. However, studies were too heterogeneous and of insufficient methodological quality to draw firm conclusions. Large, prospective studies on this topic are warranted.

Elevated blood glucose is associated with aggravated brain edema in acute stroke
ConclusionElevated admission BGL were associated with increased early brain edema and poor clinical outcome mediated by collateral status. Patients with higher BGL might be targeted by adjuvant anti-edematous treatment.

Specific mechanisms of subarachnoid hemorrhage accompanied by ischemic stroke in essential thrombocythemia: two case reports and a literature review
ConclusionsThe current study describes rare cases of SAH accompanied by ischemic stroke secondary to ET along with a review of the current literature, implying specific mechanisms for cerebral artery disorders associated withJAK2 V617F mutation.

Determining factors of better leptomeningeal collaterals: a study of 857 consecutive acute ischemic stroke patients
ConclusionsYounger age, dyslipidemia and lower creatinine levels were predictors of better collaterals in AIS patients from proximal MCA occlusions. Greater degree of collaterals related to lower stroke severity on admission. On neuroimaging, better collaterals were independently associated with minor early ischemic changes and lower clot burden. These data may add knowledge on pathophysiology of collaterals development and may help to identify patients with better collaterals for late or aggressive recanalization treatments.

The intraventricular-spot sign: prevalence, significance, and relation to hematoma expansion and outcomes
ConclusionWe studied the prediction of spot sign on hematoma expansion and clinical outcomes in the different subtypes of ICH. Our study showed that spot sign is a good predictor in IPH but not IVH. Despite the rarity of IVH; the prevalence of spot sign was higher in IVH than IPH. This might be due to anatomical and physiological variations.

Carotid endarterectomy in patients with recurrent symptoms associated with an ipsilateral carotid artery near occlusion with full collapse
ConclusionIn patients with RSNOFC, CEA may be considered a potential treatment option. Although procedural risks in this small subgroup may be higher as compared to patients with low-to-moderate risk anatomy, this risk may outbalance the natural course.

Current treatment of central retinal artery occlusion: a national survey
ConclusionsThis survey shows that there is significant variability in treatment practices for acute CRAO in the US. Because of the high cerebrovascular and cardiovascular risk reported in this population of patients, it is notable that the approach to risk factor screening is also highly variable and many programs do not routinely refer patients to an emergency department for urgent evaluation. Finally, there appears to be equipoise among treatment teams regarding the efficacy of systemic fibrinolysis, as 53% of programs report a willingness to treat at least some patients with this modality.

Primary intraventricular hemorrhage in adults: etiological causes and prognostic factors in Chinese population
AbstractPrimary intraventricular hemorrhage (PIVH) is a rare type of hemorrhagic stroke that is poorly understood. We aimed to explore the features of this disease in Chinese population via an institutional prospective study. Adult patients diagnosed with PIVH from January 2013 to January 2016 were enrolled in this study. Data, including clinical variables, radiological features, and yield of angiography, were collected to evaluate the clinical features, etiological causes, and prognostic factors of this disease. A total of 67 patients (73.6%) were diagnosed with PIVH which constituted 3.2% of contemporary patients with he...
