IV tPA Utilization and Outcomes in Asian Americans (P3.103)
Conclusions:We confirmed U.S. ethnic differences in IV tPA utilization and found that Asians have lower rates of tPA treatment compared with Whites but higher rates than Blacks of Hispanics. Asians also have higher rates of hemorrhage and in-hospital death following tPA. These findings are limited by lack of data on stroke severity, mechanisms, and treatment times.Disclosure: Dr. Moya has nothing to disclose. Dr. Chong has nothing to disclose.

Disability and mortality after permanent feeding tube placement in patients with acute stroke (P3.107)
Conclusions:In our large cohort of patients with acute stroke and PEG tubes, nearly 9/10 had severe disability at discharge. From discharge to 1 year, there was no difference in mortality between PEG and NG patient cohorts. These results suggest that PEG tubes serve mainly to prolong survival in patients discharged with severe disability. Our study may help support guideline creation and facilitate discussions with patients and families regarding PEG tube placement after acute stroke.Disclosure: Dr. Joundi has nothing to disclose. A Common Data Language for Clinical Research Studies: The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke and National Library of Medicine Cerebral Aneurysms and Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Common Data Elements Version 1.0 Recommendations (P3.169)
Conclusions:NINDS encourages the use of CDEs by the clinical research community in order to standardize data collection across studies. The NINDS CDEs are a continually evolving resource, requiring updates as research advancements indicate. These newly developed SAH CDEs serve to be a valuable starting point for researchers and facilitate streamlining and sharing data. Information provided at this meeting will include examples of how the SAH CDEs and CRFs may be used by a research study, demonstrations of navigating the NINDS CDE and NIH CDE Repository websites and submitting feedback.Study Supported by: This project was f...

Stroke in women: Results from the Mashhad Stroke Incidence Study (MSIS), a population based study in the Middle-East (P3.251)
Conclusions:A relatively higher rate of stroke in women needs a prompt action in primary and secondary prevention of stroke in developing countries. Larger population-based studies are required to resolve the underlying reasons for higher incidence rate among women, in particularly for ischemic and intracerebral hemorrhage types in this age band.Disclosure: Dr. Amiri has nothing to disclose. Myocardial Wall Rupture Following tPA Administration: A Case Report and Review of the Literature (P3.270)
Conclusions:Although the frequency of pericarditis, mural hemorrhage and subsequent myocardial rupture after MI is declining following PCI, clinicians should be mindful of this potential complication in tPA treated patients with recent MI. Further, cardiac wall rupture should be considered in patients who develop acute hypotension and bradycardia following tPA administration. The current literature is limited and insufficient to provide generalizable guidance on managing AIS patients with recent MI.Disclosure: Dr. Neu has nothing to disclose. Hemorrhagic stroke following consumption of energy drink (P3.271)
Conclusions:Apart from high levels of caffeine, Red Line also contains multiple other compunds like B-Phenylethylamine hydrochloride, Yohimbine, Toothed club moss extract and 5-hydroxytryptophan. Many of these agents are known to have sympathomimetic activity of their own. There is limited awareness of the potential interactions between these agents, and their safety when combined with caffeine. The Red Line bottle recommends that people with hypertension not use it, but our patient had not read these instructions. In conclusion, intracranial hemorrhage must be added to the list of side effects associated with energy drink...

Moyamoya Vasculopathy in a Patient with Scleroderma: A Case Report and Review of the Literature (P3.273)
Conclusions:MMS in the context of scleroderma is a very rare entity. The angiographic findings are result of a systemic process at the cellular level, independent of atheromatous changes. They may represent progressive vasculopathy different from the classically described Suzuki stages for moyamoya disease.Disclosure: Dr. Ahmad has nothing to disclose. Acute Ischemic Stroke as a Presenting Feature of Multiple Myeloma (P3.279)
Conclusions:Stroke is a leading and preventable cause of disability in the US adult population. The majority of strokes are due to atherosclerotic vascular or cardioembolic disease. Understanding the diagnostic work up of stroke and recognizing rare etiologies like MM is important for stroke prevention. This brings to light the importance of recognizing stroke as an initial presenting feature of multiple myeloma and of multiple myeloma as an important treatable etiology of stroke.Disclosure: Dr. Chung has nothing to disclose. Contrast induced encephalopathy mimicking reperfusion injury (P3.285)
Conclusions:Diagnostic or therapeutic angiography is frequently performed for acute ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke. Successful Thrombolysis After Protamine Reversal Of Heparin (P3.287)
Conclusions:Anticoagulation with Heparin use within last 48 hours with abnormal aPTT before stroke is an absolute contraindication for IV tPA but there is no clear evidence regarding whether reversal of heparin will affect the long term outcome. To our knowledge, this is the first case of acute stroke with Heparin reversal followed by IV tPA.Disclosure: Dr. Almarhoon has nothing to disclose. Dr. Danoun has nothing to disclose.
