Analysis of Risk Factors for In-Hospital Stroke Mortality and Stroke Readmission in Hospital Risoleta Tolentino Neves (HRTN) - Belo Horizonte, Brazil (P1.213)
Conclusions: This study identified previous history of AF, cardiopathy and diabetes as risk-factors for increased stroke in-hospital mortality. We also identified that cardioembolic stroke, previous Chagas' disease and prosthetic heart valve increased the risk of readmission.Disclosure: Dr. Meira has nothing to disclose. Reduction in 30 Day Readmission of Stroke Patients from Acute Care Centers with the Involvement of Medical Hospitalists (P1.214)
Conclusions: In the absence of a medical hospitalist, stroke patients are predominantly readmitted for infectious etiology. Readmission complications are decreased among those discharged from a primary hospitalist service. We conclude that involving medical hospitalists in the care of stroke patients during their initial admission optimizes discharge condition; thus reducing the risk of complications and decreasing frequency of re-hospitalizations.Disclosure: Dr. Hua has nothing to disclose. Factors Influencing Oral Anticoagulant Prescribing Practices for Atrial Fibrillation among Cardiologists, Internists, and Vascular Neurologists (P1.227)
Conclusions: Medical specialties differ in their reasons for selecting NOACs over warfarin and in their use of aspirin with warfarin. Educational interventions may prevent misinterpretations of clinical trial results, particularly with regards to comparative efficacy in the prevention of ischemic stroke and intracerebral hemorrhage. Alcoholism and In-Hospital Mortality among Hemorrhagic Stroke Patients in Puerto Rico (P1.263)
Conclusions: The adjusted OR of 3.18 suggests a positive association and in-patient hemorrhagic stroke mortality. However the small sample size and low power limit the ability to delineate a clear statistical association, thereby warranting further study into this subject matter as alcoholism is a modifiable risk factor and early interventions may lower hemorrhagic stroke mortality in this population.Disclosure: Dr. Smirnoff has nothing to disclose.
