Increase in neutrophils after recombinant tissue plasminogen activator thrombolysis predicts poor functional outcome of ischaemic stroke: a longitudinal study
ConclusionsA dynamic increase in neutrophils after stroke significantly predicts 3‐month death or major disability in acute ischaemic stroke patients receiving r‐tPA treatment.

Cerebral small vessel disease, medial temporal lobe atrophy and cognitive status in patients with ischaemic stroke and transient ischaemic attack
ConclusionIn patients with ischaemic cerebrovascular disease, SVD features are associated with MTA, which is a common finding in stroke survivors. SVD and AD type neurodegeneration coexist, but the AD marker MTA, rather than SVD markers, is associated with post‐stroke cognitive impairment.

Serum 25 ‐hydroxyvitamin D deficiency predicts poor outcome amongst acute ischaemic stroke patients with low high density lipoprotein cholesterol
ConclusionsVitamin D deficiency may be merely an independent risk factor of poor prognosis in ischaemic stroke patients with low HDLC level.

Neurothrombectomy in acute ischaemic stroke: a prospective single‐centre study and comparison with randomized controlled trials
ConclusionBy choosing pragmatic inclusion criteria state‐of‐the‐art IA therapy of a specialized tertiary stroke centre can be safely applied under real‐world conditions to a higher percentage of patients with similar success to the recently published RCTs.

Progranulin and short‐term outcome in patients with acute ischaemic stroke
ConclusionsSerum PGRN levels independently predicted all‐cause mortality and adverse functional outcome in the short term in stroke patients. The discriminative power was improved by PGRN on the basis of NIHSS score.

Vision problems in ischaemic stroke patients: effects on life quality and disability
ConclusionOne in four patients reported a vision problem on follow‐up after cerebral infarction. Vision problems after cerebral infarction reduce quality of life and are associated with increased disability. Thorough diagnostic evaluation and targeted rehabilitation is important.

Factors predictive of return to work after stroke in patients with mild−moderate disability in India
ConclusionsAmongst patients with mild to moderate disability after stroke, almost half do not return to work, and this is determined by functional disability and type of job rather than psychosocial factors such as anxiety and depression.

Relationship of functional disability after a recent stroke with recurrent stroke risk
ConclusionCompared with no/slight disability, moderate disability after a recent stroke is linked to a higher risk of recurrent stroke.

Post‐stroke cognitive impairment is common even after successful clinical recovery
ConclusionsCognitive impairment as evaluated with a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment is prevalent in stroke survivors even with successful clinical recovery. Typically multiple domains and complex cognitive abilities are affected. MMSE is not sensitive in detecting these symptoms. Post‐stroke cognitive impairment is strongly related to poor functional outcome.

Anemia in young patients with ischaemic stroke
ConclusionAnemia on admission was associated with stroke in CeAD patients and with more severe strokes in both study samples. Moderate to severe anemia may predict unfavorable outcome.

Tissue‐factor‐bearing microparticles (MPs‐TF) in patients with acute ischaemic stroke: the influence of stroke treatment on MPs‐TF generation
ConclusionOur findings suggest that patients with acute ischaemic stroke have increased generation of MPs‐TF. Nevertheless, further studies are needed in order to confirm such inference.

Association between reduced kidney function and clinical outcomes after ischaemic stroke with atrial fibrillation
ConclusionsReduced eGFR was independently associated with increased risk of death in patients with ischaemic stroke and AF. The association between reduced eGFR and risk of stroke recurrence needs to be explored in larger studies.

Diabetes and thrombolysis for acute stroke: a clear benefit for diabetics
ConclusionsData from this nationwide survey show that diabetic stroke patients receive a substantial benefit from thrombolysis, and therefore diabetic strokes should not be excluded from thrombolytic treatment.
