Abstract 252: Regional Variations in Access to Care Among U.S. Veterans With Cardiovascular Disease Session Title: Poster Session PM
Conclusions: In this observational study involving U.S. veterans with CVD, West region was independently associated with lower rates of medical checkup within the past year. Further large-scale studies examining the prevalence of impaired access to care in U.S. veterans with CVD are warranted.

Abstract 267: A Single-page Best Practice Algorithm Reduces Stroke Risk and Improves Arrhythmia Management Decisions in Patients With Acute Atrial Fibrillation: A Quality Improvement Project Session Title: Poster Session PM
Conclusions: Using established quality improvement methodology and cost-neutral multi-disciplinary expertise, this novel management algorithm has significantly improved the quality and safety of care for patients with acute AF at NMUH. Prospective analysis of long-term adverse outcomes is now required to establish morbidity or mortality benefit.

Abstract 111: Depression as a Risk Factor for Incident Ischemic Stroke Among HIV-infected Veterans Session Title: Poster Session AM
Conclusions: In the VACS, MDD was associated with an increased risk of ischemic stroke in HIV+ veterans after adjustment for sociodemographic characteristics, traditional cerebrovascular risk factors, and HIV factors; however, this association was modestly attenuated after adjustment for cocaine and alcohol abuse/dependence. Future research is necessary to: (a) fully elucidate the relationships among MDD, cocaine/alcohol use, and stroke risk and (b) determine whether intervening on MDD reduces stroke risk in HIV+ and HIV- people. Clinical providers should be aware of the increased stroke risk among HIV+ adults with MDD.

Abstract 121: Anxiety and Depression in Patients With Fibromuscular Dysplasia: A Report From the US Registry for Fibromuscular Dysplasia Session Title: Poster Session AM
Conclusions: More than 1/3 of patients in the FMD registry had A, D, or both, and these patients showed multiple differences compared to patients without A/D. More study is required to understand this relationship. Given the high prevalence of A/D in this population, FMD patients should be screened for the presence of A/D and offered appropriate treatment.

Abstract 131: Recurrent Acute Cardiovascular Events and Statin Use Session Title: Poster Session AM
Conclusion: While statin use substantially increased after an index CV event, nearly 40% of patients remained untreated, increasing their recurrent CV event risk by 76%. Initiation and continuation of statin therapy after CV events remains a large public health opportunity for patients with ASCVD.

Abstract 133: Using Administrative Data Registries and Clinical Data Registries to Identify Discrepancies and Improve Data Quality Session Title: Poster Session AM
Conclusion: Comparing administrative and clinical data registries data is an effective quality tool to identify discrepancies in each source of data. Sharing discrepancies with hospitals results in improved understanding of data standards and data quality.

Abstract 145: Illinois Acute Stroke Ready Hospital Designation is Associated With Improved Door-to-Needle Best Practices Session Title: Poster Session AM
Conclusions: Since Illinois introduced ASRH designation in 2009, a steady improvement in meeting acute stroke benchmarks has been observed for hospitals providing care at the entry point of care. Statewide stroke legislation should be considered as a strategy for supporting system-wide implementation of acute stroke best practices.

Abstract 175: Atrial Fibrillation in the USF Resident Clinics: Quality-Driven Medical Therapy Session Title: Poster Session AM
Patients with atrial fibrillation (afib) have a high rate of serious complications including stroke and decompensated heart failure. While patients with afib are five times more likely to suffer a stroke in their lifetime than the general population, this risk can be reduced by 64% with appropriate anticoagulation using warfarin or approved novel oral anticoagulants (NOACs). Reducing the morbidity and mortality from excess strokes is a common interest nationwide due to unsustainable healthcare costs, increasing human resource gaps in medicine, and payment reforms that hold physicians and healthcare organizations financiall...

Abstract 204: Cardiovascular Mortality and Non-fatal Cardiovascular Events After Diagnosis of Acute Aortic Syndrome Session Title: Poster Session PM
Conclusions: AAS is associated with a higher overall mortality and an increased risk of any first time CV event, first time MI and HF that persists beyond the acute phase. These data highlight the risk of CV events among those with AAS and implicate the need for long-term cardiovascular management in these patients.

Abstract 205: Stroke Risk and Symptom Recognition Post Cardiac Catheterization Session Title: Poster Session PM
Over 1.4 million cardiac catheterization procedures (CCPs) take place yearly. CPP related stroke incidence in 1973 was reported as 0.23%. CCPs are invasive in nature with complications occurring due to unintentional trauma to preexisting atherosclerotic aortic plaques or thrombus formation at catheter/guidewire tips. Less common causes of ischemic stroke are air, left ventricular clot, hypotension, arterial dissection, fractured guidewire. Transient neurological deficits have been reported following high-osmolar contrast injection into carotid/vertebral arteries. With improved practice, current stroke incidence is 0.06%. P...

Abstract 208: A Large, Retrospective Cohort Study Comparing Cardiovascular Outcomes With {beta}-blocker Combination Treatment in Patients With Hypertension Session Title: Poster Session PM
Conclusions: In adults receiving combination antihypertension therapy, NEB treatment was associated with a lower risk for CV-related hospitalization than either ATN or MET. Lower risk of hospitalization was supported by event rate data, as patients receiving NEB combined with other antihypertensives were hospitalized less frequently than patients receiving combination therapy with either ATN or MET.

Abstract 209: Education Level and Long-Term Outcomes After Acute Myocardial Infarction: The China PEACE Prospective AMI Study Session Title: Poster Session PM
Conclusions: In a national Chinese cohort of patients hospitalized with AMI, lower educational attainment was associated with a higher risk of adverse events in the year following discharge. This association highlights the need to explore mechanisms underlying this relationship, and to consider interventions for adults with lower levels of education.

Abstract 245: Assessing Patient Knowledge and Satisfaction Following Stroke Video Education Session Title: Poster Session PM
Conclusions: Based on this preliminary data, stroke patients enjoy video education in clinic. However, as patients in both groups were highly satisfied, it remains unclear whether video education increases overall satisfaction. Highly educated patients may bennefit from video education, but further enrollment will clarify this. A positive correlation between post-visit test score and satisfaction indicates that clinics should prioritize patient education.
