Abstract 323: Standardized Triggers for Catheterization Laboratory Morbidity and Mortality Case Review Session Title: Poster Session III
Conclusions: We present a 10-year experience with the use of objective triggers to identify cases for M&M review. This method identifies challenging cases of educational value and could be immediately implemented to strengthen national catheterization laboratory quality improvement programs.

Abstract 328: Cardiovascular Disease Associated with Ability to Achieve Renal Transplant and Post-Transplant Adverse Events Session Title: Poster Session III
Conclusions: CVD is common in patients listed for renal transplant. CAD is independently associated with lower odds of receiving a transplant. CAD and rEF are independently associated with increased hazard of post-transplant death or graft failure. Future efforts should focus measures to optimize outcomes in patients with CVD awaiting transplant.

Abstract 336: Cost-effectiveness of Implantable Cardiac Monitor-guided Intermittent Anticoagulation for Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation Session Title: Poster Session III
Conclusions: Based on the REACT.COM pilot study, a strategy of intermittent, ICM-guided oral anticoagulation with NOACs was cost-saving relative to expected outcomes with continuous anticoagulation, with equivalent quality-adjusted survival. This strategy requires validation in a larger, randomized study.

Abstract 339: Hospitalization Rates and Healthcare Costs Among Non-valvular Atrial Fibrillation Patients Who Were Naive Users of Novel Oral Anticoagulants Session Title: Poster Session III
Conclusions: This early assessment shows that among anticoagulant naïve NVAF patients, treatment with apixaban was associated with a lower rate of all-cause hospitalization, as well as lower overall costs compared to other NOACs. Further evaluation is needed to provide additional detail on potential drivers of utilization differences.

Abstract 345: Outcomes Associated with Catheter Ablation of Atrial Fibrillation: Insights From The Veteran's Health Administration Session Title: Poster Session III
Conclusion: Veterans undergoing AF ablation are typically older with more comorbidities than the general AF ablation population. Despite these variations, overall outcomes for AF ablation in the VHA are comparable to outcomes in the general population.

Abstract 350: Impact of Acute Kidney Injury on Outcomes of Patients Admitted with Unstable Angina in United States, Years 2005-2011 Session Title: Poster Session III
Conclusions: In patients with UA, AKI is associated with significantly higher rates of in-hospital complications and mortality.

Abstract 355: The Economic and Clinical Burden of High Risk Symptomatic Peripheral Artery Disease Session Title: Poster Session III
Conclusions: Effective secondary prevention therapies may reduce morbidity and costs associated with these high risk groups.

Abstract 359: Duke Activity Status Index is Sensitive to Non-Fatal Adverse Cardiac Events when Evaluating Patient Outcome at Late Follow-up Session Title: Poster Session III
Conclusions: This study demonstrates that in cardiac surgical patients, a low score on DASI is independently associated with a higher occurrence of late non-fatal cardiac events. This provides further evidence supporting the use of the DASI questionnaire in evaluating patient functioning after cardiac surgery.

Abstract 301: Healthcare Costs Following Stroke and Major Bleeding Events in Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation Patients Session Title: Poster Session III
Conclusions: NVAF patients who have a stroke or MB event incur higher healthcare costs relative to patients without events. Interventions preventing stroke or MB events have the potential to reduce the healthcare burden associated NVAF.

Abstract 302: Stroke Legislation Impacts Distribution of Certified Stroke Centers in the United States Session Title: Poster Session III
Conclusion: State stroke legislation significantly increased the number of certified stroke centers in the United States, potentially improving accessibility of standardized care for patients with acute ischemic stroke.

Abstract 304: Developing a Patient Registry for Atrial Fibrillation to Improve The Quality of Stroke Prevention in a Safety Net Institution Session Title: Poster Session III
Conclusions: A baseline assessment of stroke prophylaxis among atrial fibrillation patients in a safety net health system demonstrates nonguideline-concordant anticoagulation use among low-risk patients and suboptimal anticoagulation use among high-risk patients, patterns that could not be explained by HAS-BLED score.

Abstract 305: The Accuracy of Profiling Methods to Identify Hospital Outliers for Ischemic Stroke Mortality in the Presence of Missing Data: Effect of Hospital Volume Session Title: Poster Session III
Conclusions: Reductions in sample size when using a complete case analysis in the presence of missing data have a dramatic effect on correctly identifying performance outliers, especially in lower case volumes. Limitations to identifying ischemic stroke performance mortality outliers - even with complete NIHSS documentation - should be appreciated.

Abstract 306: Regional Differences in Stroke Center Designation and Get with The Guidelines (GWTG-S) Participation and Performance: Results From The NorthEast Cerebrovascular Consortium (NECC) Session Title: Poster Session III
Conclusions: There has been more rapid growth of State in lieu of National PSC certification, and participation and achievement in GWTG-S in the Northeast from 2006 through 2013 compared to other regions in the U.S. The NECC may compliment and enhance existing regulatory and advocacy initiatives. Further investigation is merited to evaluate the influence of regional networks and State versus National PSC designation.

Abstract 307: Gender Differences in Recurrent Cardiovascular Events Among High-risk Patients With Hyperlipidemia Session Title: Poster Session III
Conclusions: Among high-risk patients (i.e. history of CV events) enrolled in US health plans, women were more likely to have a subsequent CV event and multiple CV events sooner than men. Further research is needed to ascertain whether the gender differences might reflect differences in the intensity of treatment for hyperlipidemia between men and women.
