Abstract 009: The Impact of Participation in a Telestroke Network on In-hospital Mortality in Georgia Session Title: Abstract Oral Session: General
Conclusions: Acute ischemic stroke patients admitted in hospitals participating in a telestroke program had a more pronounced reduction in in-hospital mortality. However, telestroke coverage did not alter the effect of nighttime admission on in-hospital mortality.

Abstract 013: Using the Diabetes Collaborative Registry (DCR) to Estimate the Potential Real-world Impact of the Iris Trial on Improving Outcomes in Patients With Cerebrovascular Disease Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusion: In a large US-based outpatient registry, we found that 12% of outpatients with prediabetes or diet-controlled T2D met the main eligibility criteria for IRIS, partly due to the narrow inclusion criteria of the trial but also likely reflective of a general paucity of screening for prediabetes and insulin resistance in this cohort. Pioglitazone was rarely used in these patients but could have a substantial impact on CV outcomes in these eligible patients. The population impact could be even greater if the CV benefit of pioglitazone can be demonstrated in patients with cerebrovascular disease and overt T2D or even ...

Abstract 016: Endovascular Management of Major Vascular Access Site Complications During Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI). Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusion: Many patients with major vascular complications during TAVI can be treated with a pure endovascular approach. In our small series we observed no difference in concurrent complications when an endovascular repair can be rapidly initiated as compared to a primary surgical approach.

Abstract 022: Assessing Attitudes and Treatment Preferences Among Patients With Hyperlipidemia: Patient Focus Groups Session Title: Poster Session I
Discussion: The frequent switching and side effects highlight significant unmet need in patients with HLD and dissatisfaction with statins among current and recent users, with and without a history of CV events. Results also suggest that a sizeable portion of patients with HLD may be willing to try an injectable CLD.

Abstract 037: The Accuracy of Self-reported Blood Pressure in the Medication Adherence Improvement Support App for Engagement - Blood Pressure (MedISAFE-BP) Trial Session Title: Poster Session I
Discussion: In this cohort of individuals who reported that their BP was poorly controlled, only one-third actually had elevated BP when measured with a home BP cuff. While this discrepancy may have many underlying causes, it suggests that the use of self-reported BPs is not an accurate method of monitoring hypertension control at the population-level. Reassuringly, several factors are independently associated with accurate self-reported BPs, and thus there may be some subgroups for whom self-report can be relied upon.

Abstract 042: Association Between Preexisting Valvular Heart Disease and Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy Among Hospitalized Patients in the United States Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusion: In this large, nationwide study, preexisting VHD was associated with worse clinical outcomes in patients hospitalized for TTCM. Our results can guide future clinical decision-making regarding prompt risk factor identification for poor prognosis in TTCM patients. Future prospective studies are needed to further evaluate this association.

Abstract 043: Health Insurance and the Risk of Incident Cardiovascular Disease in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusions: The association of health insurance with CVD incidence varied by insurance group, and private insurance was associated with a lower risk of incident CVD. Further exploration of the features of health insurance coverage that impact CVD incidence may facilitate improvements in the primary prevention of CVD.

Abstract 050: Improvements in Door to Groin Puncture Time for Surgical Stroke After Quality Protocol Interventions at the University of California, San Diego Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusion: UCSD’s quality improvement process effected dramatic, statistically significant improvement in DGPT. This analysis demonstrates the utility of a formal quality improvement system at a large, academic comprehensive stroke center.

Abstract 054: Mortality Decline After Ischemic Stroke-the Medicare Cohort From 2009 to 2013 Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusion: The one-year mortality among Medicare beneficiaries after ischemic stroke hospitalization showed a dramatic decline from 2009 to 2013. Further study is needed to determine whether this is attributable to the change of stroke system of care in the past decade.

Abstract 066: Perioperative Stroke as a Predictor of Mortality and Morbidity in Patients Undergoing CABG Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusions: Perioperative stroke remains a serious adverse outcome of CABG and is an independent predictor of mortality and morbidity. While rates of stroke and mortality are decreasing, morbidity continues to trend upwards. This study emphasizes the importance of prevention and early intervention in patients at risk for perioperative stroke.

Abstract 072: Impact of Chronic Diabetes on Periprocedural Outcomes Among Patient With Atrial Fibrillation and Flutter Who Underwent Radiofrequency Catheter Ablation Therapy (RFA). Report From the NIS 2014. Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusions: RFA has a similar procedural safety in diabetics when compared to non-diabetic patients. It remains a safe procedure in diabetics with drug-refractory atrial fibrillation and flutter. Renal failure, CHF, type of Insurance, hospital location and teaching status are predictors of complications after RFA.
