Effects of Stroke Education of Junior High School Students on Stroke Knowledge of Their Parents: Tochigi Project Brief Reports
Conclusions— Improvement of stroke knowledge immediately after the stroke lesson was observed in parents as well as their children, which indicated that our teaching materials using the Manga was effective in delivering the stroke knowledge to parents through their children.

Frequency of Patent Foramen Ovale and Migraine in Patients With Cryptogenic Stroke Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—In patients with cryptogenic stroke who have migraine, there is a high prevalence (79%) of PFO with right-to-left shunt. The timing of the stroke in migraineurs is usually not related to a migraine attack. These observations are consistent with the hypothesis that the mechanism of stroke in migraineurs is most likely because of a paradoxical embolus. Future cryptogenic stroke classification schemes should consider including PFO as a separate etiologic category.

National Women's Knowledge of Stroke Warning Signs, Overall and by Race/Ethnic Group Brief Reports
Conclusions— Knowledge of stroke warning signs was low among a nationally representative sample of women, especially among Hispanics. In contrast, knowledge to call 9-1-1 when experiencing signs of stroke was high.

Effects of Intensive and Moderate Public Education on Knowledge of Early Stroke Symptoms Among a Japanese Population: The Acquisition of Stroke Knowledge Study Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Our findings suggest that frequent distribution of leaflets and booklets significantly improved the short-term knowledge of community residents about early symptoms of stroke.

Prothrombin G20210A Mutation Is Associated With Young-Onset Stroke: The Genetics of Early-Onset Stroke Study and Meta-Analysis Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— The prothrombin G20210A mutation is associated with ischemic stroke in young adults and may have an even stronger association among those with earlier onset strokes. Our finding of a stronger association in the younger young adult population requires replication.

Pediatric Acute Stroke Protocol Activation in a Children's Hospital Emergency Department Brief Reports
Conclusions— Of pediatric brain attacks, 24% were stroke, 2% were transient ischemic attack, and 14% were other neurological emergencies. Together, 40% had a stroke or other neurological emergency, underscoring the need for prompt evaluation and management of children with brain attacks.

Accuracy and Reliability of Stroke Diagnosis in the Pediatric Emergency Department Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—ED physician diagnostic accuracy and reliability varies considerably across disorders presenting with brain attack symptoms. Clinical recognition tools are required to assist pediatric ED physicians with diagnosis of stroke and other serious neurological disorders.

Migraine and Cerebrovascular Atherosclerosis in Patients With Ischemic Stroke Brief Report
Conclusions—Migraine is not associated with excess atherosclerosis in large vessels in patients with acute ischemic stroke. Our findings suggest that the biological mechanisms by which migraine results in ischemic stroke are not related to macrovascular cerebral atherosclerosis.

Lifestyle Risk Factors for Ischemic Stroke and Transient Ischemic Attack in Young Adults in the Stroke in Young Fabry Patients Study Original Contributions
Conclusions— In this large European cohort of young patients with acute ischemic cerebrovascular events, modifiable risk factors were highly prevalent, particularly in men and older patients. These data emphasize the need for vigorous primary and secondary prevention measures already in young populations targeting modifiable lifestyle vascular risk factors. Imaging Negative Stroke: Diagnoses and Outcomes in Intravenous Tissue Plasminogen Activator–Treated Patients
Conclusions: Because most INS patients were found to have NNCI, which may represent either transient ischemic attack or aborted stroke, and there were no intracerebral hemorrhages in the INS group, our data support the safety of administering IV t-PA to all patients in whom acute ischemic stroke is clinically suspected. We have demonstrated that NNCI patients and stroke mimics are common, and future larger scale prospective studies are required to delineate the true frequencies of each and to evaluate differences in outcomes.

Ischemic stroke subtypes and migraine with visual aura in the ARIC study
Conclusion: In participants with migraine with visual aura in late middle age, increased risk of cardioembolic stroke was observed. Migraine with visual aura was linked to increased stroke risk, while migraine without visual aura was not, over the period of 20 years. These results are specific to older migraineurs.

Analysis of Diagnostic Accuracy, Workflow and Time to Treatment during In-house 'Stroke Codes (P4.282)
Conclusions:Only a minority of ‘stroke codes’ were activated for new ischemic stroke/TIA or large vessel occlusion, while the remaining codes were for altered mental status, seizure, or non-neurologic etiologies. A notable delay occurred between time of code call and imaging. Improved identification of focal symptoms and use of parallel processing for evaluation will be studied in a prospective analysis in effort to improve patient identification and response times.Disclosure: Dr. Manners has nothing to disclose.
