Inpatient virtual shared medical appointments to improve health literacy, increase patient self-efficacy, and reduce provider burnout in acute cerebrovascular pathology patients and their caregivers: a pilot study
CONCLUSIONS: Implementation of a vSMA program at a tertiary care center during a pandemic was feasible. Themes caregivers expressed on the postsession survey included better understanding of caring for a stroke patient and coping with the unpredictability of a patient's prognosis. The pandemic has precipitated shifts toward telehealth, but this study highlights the importance of avoiding marginalization of elderly and less technologically inclined populations.PMID:35921191 | DOI:10.3171/2022.4.FOCUS21764

Depression as a risk factor for cognitive impairment in later life: the Health In Men cohort study
ConclusionsThe lack of association between past depression and cognitive impairment suggests that the link between depression and cognitive impairment is not causal and that the presence of clinically significant depressive symptoms in later life may herald the onset of cognitive impairment in at least some people. Adult simulation and demonstration of nurse competency with neurological assessment
Nurses work in challenging environments and vast amounts of information are shared on a continual basis. Changes in health care and bedside nursing are constant which make maintaining competency in this dynamic environment challenging. In addition, as documentation has transitioned to electronic medical records, new challenges have been created. The purpose of this paper is to describe an educational intervention using a live standardized patient (actor) simulation with staff nurses that care for patients after a stroke or carotid intervention.

Psychosis Polyrisk Score (PPS) for the Detection of Individuals At-Risk and the Prediction of Their Outcomes
Conclusions The combination of risk/protective factors encompassing genetic (PRS) and non-genetic information (PPS) holds promise for overcoming the epidemiological weakness of the CHR-P paradigm. The PPS conceptually and empirically developed here will facilitate future research in this field and hopefully advance our ability to detect individuals at-risk for psychosis and forecast their clinical outcomes.
