Time to Post-Anesthesia Neurological Evaluation and Hemodynamic Stability in Carotid Endarterectomy Comparing Three General Anesthetic Techniques Targeted to a Preset Bispectral Index Value: A Pilot Study
The objective of this pilot study was to assess if any of three general anesthetic techniques for CEA are associated with a shorter time to a reliable postoperative neurological exam. Secondary objectives were to assess postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD), postoperative delirium (POD), and hemodynamic stability. Twenty-one patients undergoing CEA were enrolled and randomized to different combinations of inhalational and intravenous anesthesia: Group A: propofol, remifentanil, and desflurane; Group B: dexmedetomidine, remifentanil, and desflurane; Group C: remifentanil and desflurane. Anesthetic depth was titrated us...

Propofol Ameliorates Microglia Activation by Targeting MicroRNA-221/222-IRF2 Axis
CONCLUSIONS: Our study highlights the critical function of miR-221/222, which inhibited Irf2 translation, in the anti-inflammatory effects of propofol, and provides a new perspective for the molecular mechanism of propofol-mediated neuroprotective effect.PMID:34423051 | PMC:PMC8373515 | DOI:10.1155/2021/3101146

Evaluation of energy intake compared to indirect calorimetry requirements in critically ill patients with acute brain injury
CONCLUSION: In this population, patients had lower energy intake compared to their caloric needs determined by IC during the first 72 hours of admission but attained 7-day goals. Future studies should investigate barriers to improve caloric delivery in this patient population. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.PMID:34665471 | DOI:10.1002/jpen.2282

Propofol rescued astrocytes from LPS-induced inflammatory response via blocking LncRNA-MEG3/NF- κB axis
CONCLUSION: These findings demonstrated that LncRNA-MEG3 acted as a positive regulator of NF-κB, mediated the neuroprotection of propofol in LPS-triggered astrocytes injury.PMID:35297349 | DOI:10.2174/1567202619666220316112509
