Long-term outcomes of left atrial appendage occlusion in patients with atrial fibrillation and end stage renal disease
CONCLUSIONS: Long-term outcomes of LAAO therapy may be less favorable in patients with AF undergoing dialysis, possibly because of the poor condition of patients with ESRD.PMID:37394333 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2023.06.016

Identification of m.3243A & gt;G mitochondrial DNA mutation in patients with cerebellar ataxia
CONCLUSION: Mitochondrial m.3243A>G mutation accounted for 0.9% (2/232) of genetically-undetermined cerebellar ataxia in the Han Chinese cohort in Taiwan. These findings highlight the importance of investigating m.3243A>G in patients with genetically-undetermined cerebellar ataxia.PMID:37311680 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2023.05.031

The 2020 Taiwan Stroke Society guidelines for blood pressure control at the acute stage of ischemic stroke
J Formos Med Assoc. 2022 Aug 27:S0929-6646(22)00318-7. doi: 10.1016/j.jfma.2022.08.010. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe 2020 Taiwan Stroke Society (TSS) guidelines for blood pressure (BP) control related to ischemic stroke update the 2015 TSS BP guidelines. The early management of acute ischemic stroke has evolved rapidly in the previous two decades. Since the publication of the previous version of the TSS BP guidelines, many studies have addressed BP management in ischemic stroke. Particularly, several successful endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) trials published in 2015 led to a new era of acute treatment for ischemic st...

2022 focused update of the 2017 Taiwan lipid guidelines for high risk patients: Coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease and ischemic stroke
J Formos Med Assoc. 2022 Apr 8:S0929-6646(22)00103-6. doi: 10.1016/j.jfma.2022.03.001. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe previously published 2017 Taiwan Lipid Guidelines for High Risk Patients becomes the standard guidance of dyslipidemia management for patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) in Taiwan. New clinical trials of lipid lowering therapy were published successively after 2017. The study results changed the treatment concept of ASCVD. Therefore, an update focusing on the lipid treatment strategy for patients with ASCVD becomes necessary. In this focused update of the 2017 guideline, the trea...

Data-driven clustering supports adaptive remodeling of athlete's hearts: An echocardiographic study from the Taipei Summer Universiade
CONCLUSION: Hierarchical clustering could analyze complicated multiparametric interactions among numerous echocardiography-derived phenotypes to discern the adaptive propensity of the athlete's heart. The endorsement or generation of hypotheses by a data-driven approach can be applied to various domains.PMID:34740491 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2021.10.017
