Changes in blood pressure and cardiovascular disease in middle-aged to older Chinese: the Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study
Conclusion: Most people between 50 and 70 years of age and not taking antihypertensive medication maintained a slow increase SBP trajectory over a follow-up period of approximately 7 years. However, those whose SBPs increased from low and moderate levels were associated with higher CVD risks.

Association of metabolic syndrome with carotid atherosclerosis in low-income Chinese individuals: A population-based study
CONCLUSIONS: Among individuals aged 45 years or more, we confirmed MetS and its components were associated with carotid atherosclerosis in a low-income population of northern China. The presence of MetS and a higher number of MetS components exacerbated the risk of carotid atherosclerosis; among the five MetS components, high blood pressure was associated with the greatest risk. Targeted atherosclerosis prevention and intervention should include identification and treatment of MetS, especially high blood pressure.PMID:36061552 | PMC:PMC9437543 | DOI:10.3389/fcvm.2022.943281

Rosuvastatin Slows Progression of Carotid Intima-Media Thickness: The METEOR-China Randomized Controlled Study
CONCLUSIONS: Rosuvastatin 20 mg/d significantly reduced the progression of CIMT over 2 years in Chinese adults with subclinical atherosclerosis and was well tolerated.REGISTRATION: URL: https://www.CLINICALTRIALS: gov; Unique identifier: NCT02546323.PMID:36017704 | DOI:10.1161/STROKEAHA.120.031877

Association of the triglyceride-glucose index and vascular target organ damage in a Beijing community-based population
CONCLUSIONS: The TyG index was positively associated with artery stiffness and nephric microvascular damage in a Beijing community-based population in China. This result provides evidence that the TyG index may serve as a simple and effective indicator to reflect vascular TOD.PMID:35966556 | PMC:PMC9366355 | DOI:10.3389/fcvm.2022.948402

Design, methods and baseline characteristics of the Beijing Hospital Atherosclerosis Study: a prospective dynamic cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: This study has successfully initiated an investigation into the roles of new biosignatures in predicting CAD among Chinese Han patients undergoing CAG. To the best of our knowledge, this cohort is the first study systematically focusing on the association of lifestyle biomarkers and biological age with CAD risk. Findings from this study will provide biomarkers to discriminate the presence of CAD and to predict subsequent cardiovascular events.PMID:35965802 | PMC:PMC9372652 | DOI:10.21037/atm-22-2834

Association of polygenic risk scores with incident atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease events among individuals with coronary artery calcium score of zero: The multi-ethnic study of atherosclerosis
CONCLUSIONS: Among individuals with CAC = 0, the ASCVD PRS was associated with incident ASCVD events. This appears to be driven by genetic variants related to stroke but not CHD, and particularly among women and non-Whites. ASCVD event rates remained below the threshold recommended for consideration for initiation of statin therapy even in the high PRS groups.PMID:35952728 | DOI:10.1016/j.pcad.2022.08.003

Stenting Hits Another Wall in Intracranial Stenosis Stroke
(MedPage Today) -- Intracranial angioplasty again failed for less severe intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS) strokes in a Chinese trial. However, a separate analysis did leave a glimmer of hope that IV antiplatelet therapy prior to thrombectomy...

Elevated hs-CRP and Symptomatic Intracranial/Extracranial Artery Stenosis Predict Stroke Recurrence after Acute Ischemic Stroke or TIA
CONCLUSION: Symptomatic intracranial or extracranial artery stenosis was associated with increased risk of recurrent ischemic stroke, stroke, and CVE at 1 year in patients with AIS or TIA, especially in patients with elevated hs-CRP levels. Asymptomatic intracranial or extracranial artery stenosis did not increase the risk of ischemic events compared with no artery stenosis regardless of hs-CRP levels.PMID:35934783 | DOI:10.5551/jat.63512
