Depression status and functional outcome of patients with ischemic stroke and the impact on caregivers living in Chengdu: a cross-sectional study
ConclusionThe PSSS score was a major risk factor for the development of depression in IS survivors, and patients’ depression status and severe functional deficits had a negative impact on the ZBI score of the main caregivers. Social support can reduce the ZBI score.

Association of brain microbleeds with risk factors, cognition, and MRI markers in MESA
DISCUSSION: Results suggest differing associations for lobar versus deep locations. Sensitive microbleed quantification will facilitate future longitudinal studies of their potential role as an early indicator of vascular pathology.PMID:37289978 | DOI:10.1002/alz.13346

Conclusion: The stress and psychological status of informal caregivers varied in the different stages of stroke, and they were affected by several factors. Medical staff should pay attention to informal caregivers while providing care for patients. Relevant interventions may be developed based on the results to improve the health of informal caregivers and thus to promote the health of patients.

Psychological status on informal carers for stroke survivors at various phases: a cohort study in China
ConclusionThe stress and psychological status of informal caregivers varied in the different stages of stroke, and they were affected by several factors. Medical staff should pay attention to informal caregivers while providing care for patients. Psychometric properties of the post-traumatic stress disorder checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5) in Chinese stroke patients

Resilience and caregiving ability among caregivers of people with stroke: The mediating role of uncertainty in illness
ConclusionsOur structural equation modeling result identified resilience and uncertainty about the illness as predictors of the caregiving ability of informal family caregivers who suffered from care burdens. Supporting family caregivers to build their resilience and reduce illness uncertainty may improve caregiving for stroke survivors.

Family resilience of stroke survivors within 6 months after a first-episode stroke: A longitudinal study
ConclusionFamily resilience levels were low in stroke patients 6 months after the onset, and 3 months post-stroke onset was a critical period for family resilience of stroke patients. Nurses are recommended to pay particular attention to patients with low self-efficacy, perceived low support, poor utilization of available support, as well as those who are under the care of their siblings, self-pay, or live in a poor family atmosphere. Interventions aimed at improving the self-efficacy of patients and social support are potential approaches to enhance family resilience.

Relationships between care burden, resilience, and depressive symptoms among the main family caregivers of stroke patients: A cross-sectional study
ConclusionsResilience plays a mediating role in the correlation between care burden and depressive symptoms.ImpactThe findings indicated a protective effect of resilience in alleviating the negative influences of care burden on depressive symptoms, suggesting that resilience-training intervention may be developed to mitigate depressive symptoms of the main family caregivers of stroke patients.

The association between functional status and physical pain with depressive symptoms after a stroke event: A cross-sectional analysis of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study 2018
ConclusionDepressive symptoms are common amongst post-stroke patients in China and are significantly associated with functional disability and physical pain. Our findings have implications for practitioners on the early assessment of pain and depression after stroke. Future research should explore effective intervention measures for physical-mental stroke complications.

Higher Neuropeptide Y Linked to Less Cognitive Impairment After Stroke
People who have high levels of the neurotransmitter neuropeptide Y may have a lower risk of cognitive impairment after ischemic stroke than those with low levels of neuropeptide Y, astudy in theJournal of Affective Disorders has found. Ischemic stroke occurs when a blood clot blocks or narrows an artery leading to the brain. Neuropeptide Y is thought to regulate mood, appetite, circadian rhythms, and other functions.Chongke Zhong, M.D., Ph.D., of the Medical College of Soochow University, Suzhou, China, and colleagues collected data from the blood samples of 593 adult patients who were admitted to a hospital for ischemic s...
