Inducing ketogenesis via an enteral formulation in patients with acute brain injury:a phase II study.
Conclusion: In patients with acute brain injury, an enterally administered ketogenic formulation increased plasma ketone concentrations, was well tolerated, did not impact on cerebral hemodynamics and can be safely administered.Clinical trial registered at the Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry (ACTRN12616000332426)Abbreviations: BHB: betahydroxybutyrate; AcAc: acetoacetate; ABI: acute brain injury; TBI: traumatic brain injury; CSF: cerebrospinal fluid; SAH: subarachnoid injury; CVA: cerebrovascular accidents; ICP: intracranial pressure; CPP: cerebral perfusion pressure; ICU: intensive care unit; EVD: external...

Application of Healthcare ‘Big Data’ in CNS Drug Research: The Example of the Neurological and mental health Global Epidemiology Network (NeuroGEN)
AbstractNeurological and psychiatric (mental health) disorders have a large impact on health burden globally. Cognitive disorders (including dementia) and stroke are leading causes of disability. Mental health disorders, including depression, contribute up to one-third of total years lived with disability. The Neurological and mental health Global Epidemiology Network (NeuroGEN) is an international multi-database network that harnesses administrative and electronic medical records from Australia, Asia, Europe and North America. Using these databases NeuroGEN will investigate medication use and health outcomes in neurologic...

Case Report: 18F-MK6240 Tau Positron Emission Tomography Pattern Resembling Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy in a Retired Australian Rules Football Player
Conclusion: Although lacking neuropathological examination to distinguish CTE from a variant of AD, the clear demonstration of a CTE-like tau pattern in a single at-risk individual suggests further research on the potential of 18F-MK6240 PET for identifying CTE is warranted.

Acute Fluctuant Neurological Symptoms in Stable Chronic Cryptococcus gattii Cryptococcomas: A Novel Disease Complication
Conclusions: Central nervous system cryptococcomas are difficult to treat, chronic infections, that in our patient had lasted over 10 years despite treatment compliance. A true cryptococcal meningitis relapse is indicated by positive cell cultures in previously sterile fluid but cryptococcoma progression is measured by serial magnetic resonance imaging or computed tomography scans. In the case of progression or relapse induction and consolidation therapy should be restarted. Our patient demonstrated neither relapse nor progression but presented with a novel disease complication of acute fluctuating neurology in chronic...
