Embolic Stroke during Apixaban Therapy for Left Atrial Appendage Thrombus
Left atrial appendage (LAA) thrombus is associated with atrial fibrillation (AF) and is a powerful predictor of cardiogenic thromboembolism. Warfarin is an established anticoagulant therapy for patients with LAA thrombus to prevent thromboembolic complications. Apixaban is superior to warfarin in the prevention of thromboembolic complications in patients with AF, and there are case reports showing apixaban-associated resolution of LAA thrombus; however, the efficacy and safety of apixaban for the treatment of LAA thrombus remains unproven.

Intratumoral Hemorrhage in a Patient with Malignant Meningioma under Anticoagulant Therapy
We report the case of an elderly woman with malignant meningioma and atrial fibrillation who started taking anticoagulants after an ischemic stroke and subsequently developed intratumoral hemorrhage. Further studies are required to confirm whether a particular anticoagulant agent is suitable for patients with brain tumor and atrial fibrillation.

Knowledge Regarding Oral Anticoagulation Therapy among Patients with Stroke and Those at High Risk of Thromboembolic Events
Apart from atrial fibrillation, indications for oral anticoagulation common in our clinical practice include rheumatic heart disease and mechanical heart valve replacement. Evaluation of current patient knowledge regarding oral anticoagulation therapy (OAT) is the first step in improving the quality of anticoagulation therapy and patient care. The aim of the present study was to assess the knowledge regarding OAT among patients with stroke and those at high risk of thromboembolic events in a tertiary care hospital in India.

Intravenous Thrombolysis for Acute Ischemic Stroke in a Patient Receiving Rivaroxaban
Rivaroxaban is an oral direct factor Xa inhibitor increasingly used in stroke prevention in nonvascular atrial fibrillation, primary prevention and treatment of venous thromboembolism, and secondary prevention in acute coronary syndromes.

Association of Plasma Brain Natriuretic Peptide Levels in Acute Ischemic Stroke Subtypes and Outcome
Brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) is believed to be a diagnostic marker for cardiovascular diseases, including atrial fibrillation (AF). Recent studies have incriminated BNP as a marker of cardioembolic stroke. We aimed at investigating association of plasma BNP levels in acute ischemic stroke subtypes and their outcome in Indian patients.

Incidence, Mortality, and Risk Factors for Oral Anticoagulant–associated Intracranial Hemorrhage in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation
Warfarin, a vitamin K epoxide reductase inhibitor, is the oral anticoagulant most commonly used to reduce the risk of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Warfarin has proved to be efficacious for this purpose in multiple clinical trials. However, warfarin use is laborious and associated with an increased risk of intracranial hemorrhage (ICH). Various factors increase the risk of warfarin-related ICH, including older age, intensity of anticoagulation, hypertension, and history of cerebrovascular disease.

Troponin-I Is a Predictor of a Delayed Diagnosis of Atrial Fibrillation in Acute Ischemic Stroke and Transient Ischemic Attack
Prolonged cardiac monitoring detects higher rates of atrial fibrillation (AF) in ischemic stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA) but is costly and has practical implications. The use of admission troponin-I (TnI) level to identify patients at high risk of delayed AF detection was investigated.

Adherence to Oral Anticoagulation in Secondary Stroke Prevention—The First Year of Direct Oral Anticoagulants
Patients with ischemic stroke caused by atrial fibrillation (AF) have a high risk of recurrence without adequate secondary prevention with oral anticoagulation (OAC). We investigated adherence to OAC in the first year after introduction of direct oral anticoagulants.

Clinical Outcomes of Persistent and Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation in Patients with Stroke
We compared the clinical outcomes of persistent atrial fibrillation (PeAF) and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) in patients with cardioembolic stroke caused by nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) because the nature of the fibrillation can cause persistent cerebral infarction.

Intravenous Thrombolysis with Recombinant Tissue Plasminogen Activator in a Stroke Patient Treated with Rivaroxaban
As limited amounts of data are available regarding thrombolytic therapy for patients taking novel oral anticoagulants, thrombolytic therapy is not recommended in such cases. Here, we report an acute stroke patient taking rivaroxaban who received intravenous thrombolysis with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA). An 80-year-old man with a history of nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, who had been receiving 10 mg of rivaroxaban showed abrupt onset of aphasia and right hemiparesis. National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score was 10.

Impact of Atrial Fibrillation and Inadequate Antithrombotic Management on Mortality in Acute Neurovascular Syndrome
Conclusions: Patients with AF have more severe stroke and higher mortality than stroke patients without AF. Adherence to the antithrombotic treatment guidelines for the prevention of AF-related cardioembolic strokes is suboptimal. Further studies are needed to evaluate the impact of current antithrombotic treatment guidelines on mortality.
