Long-term risk of recurrent cerebrovascular events after patent foramen ovale closure: Results from a real-world stroke cohort
CONCLUSION: In this long-term follow-up-study of patients with a cerebral ischaemic event who had received PFO-closure with different devices, rates of recurrent stroke/TIA were low and largely related to large artery atherosclerosis and small vessel disease. Stroke-Specific Predictors of Major Bleeding in Anticoagulated Patients With Stroke and Atrial Fibrillation: A Nationwide Multicenter Registry-Based Study
CONCLUSIONS: This study found that major bleeding risk was independently associated with stroke-specific factors in anticoagulated patients with stroke and AF. This has the clinical implication that baseline characteristics of patients with stroke and AF should be considered in secondary prevention, which would bring the net clinical benefit of balancing recurrent stroke prevention with minimal bleeding complications.PMID:37455504 | DOI:10.3988/jcn.2022.0289

Demographics, Risk Factors, and Etiology of Posterior Cerebral Artery Stroke Causing Homonymous Hemianopia
CONCLUSIONS: Most patients in our PCA cohort had multiple conventional stroke risk factors, a finding not previously documented. Mean age at stroke onset and AF frequency were lower than in our ICA/MCA cohort, in agreement with previous studies. As some other studies have found, nearly 1/3 of strokes were attributed to cardioaortic embolism. Within that group, AF was often a poststroke diagnosis, a finding not previously highlighted.
