Position statement from the Indian Society of Gastroenterology, Cardiological Society of India, Indian Academy of Neurology and Vascular Society of India on gastrointestinal bleeding and endoscopic procedures in patients on antiplatelet and/or anticoagulant therapy
AbstractAntiplatelet and/or anticoagulant agents (collectively known as antithrombotic agents) are used to reduce the risk of thromboembolic events in patients with conditions such as atrial fibrillation, acute coronary syndrome, recurrent stroke prevention, deep vein thrombosis, hypercoagulable states and endoprostheses. Antithrombotic-associated gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding is an increasing burden due to the growing population of advanced age with multiple comorbidities and the expanding indications for the use of antiplatelet agents and anticoagulants. GI bleeding in antithrombotic users is associated with an increase...

Thrombectomy with or without Bridging Thrombolysis for Anterior Circulation Stroke
Conclusions: In this study, BT seems to yield better clinical and procedural outcomes with lower complication rates than d-MT. These findings may support the additional value of intravenous alteplase in anterior system strokes. Further large-scale, prospective, randomized-controlled studies will clarify the gray lines in this consensus, but this paper is important for reflecting the real-world data in developing countries.

"Does left atrial appendage morphology and dimension differ amongst etiological stroke subtypes in patients without known Atrial Fibrillation? Results from the Left Atrial Appendage morphology and dimension assessment by TEE in patients with stroke without known Atrial Fibrillation (LAMDA-STROKE) Study."
CONCLUSION: Complex LAA morphology is a predominant feature in ischemic stroke patients with ESUS and may contribute to an increased risk of stroke in these patients.PMID:36894122 | DOI:10.1016/j.ihj.2023.03.001

Early and midterm outcomes after off pump coronary artery bypass surgery
ConclusionOPCAB can safely be performed with satisfactory short and mid-term outcomes. Further corroborative studies from different regions of the country or a multi-center study will help to establish the suitability of the technique in Indian patients.

Assessment of Relationship between Serum NT-proBNP Levels with Clinical Features and Prognosis in Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients
Conclusions: NT-proBNP will contribute to predict cardioembolic and pAF groups and estimate the prognosis.

Incidence, predictors, and outcome for post-operative atrial fibrillation in Indian patients undergoing off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting —a prospective observational study
ConclusionsIn our study, the incidence of POAF was much lower (7.94%) than that reported previously. POAF significantly increased adverse outcomes and length of hospital stay. Both EuroSCORE II and STS scores had similar discriminating power in predicting POAF.

Is Acute Ischemic Stroke Really Associated with Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction ? A Case-Control Study
Conclusions: Our study concluded that the prevalence of LVSD was the same in AIS patients and controls matched for age, sex, and AF prevalence, although the prevalence of LVSD was indeed higher in AIS patients without AF than in controls without AF.

Beta Amyloid and Malondialdehyde Serum Levels & #39; Analysis in Atrial Fibrillation Patients with Cognitive Impairment
Conclusion: Significantly lower levels of Aβ42 and higher levels of MDA were found in the AF patients with cognitive impairment rather than in the AF patients without cognitive impairment.

Prevalence, clinical profile, and stroke risk of atrial fibrillation in rural Andhra Pradesh, India (the ap-af study)
CONCLUSION: The prevalence of AF is lower in this study compared to studies from the developed countries. Non-rheumatic cardiovascular risk factors were the causes for AF. Non-adherence to stroke prophylaxis is a major threat that needs to be addressed.PMID:35257736 | DOI:10.1016/j.ihj.2022.02.002
