Prognostic prediction of thrombolytic therapy with rt-PA in acute ischemic stroke patients using an artificial intelligence model
CONCLUSIONS: ANN model is as effective as a logistic regression model in predicting the prognosis of AIS after thrombolytic therapy with rt-PA. Moreover, ANN is slightly superior to logistic regression in accuracy, precision and F1 score.PMID:37560207 | PMC:PMC10408517

Functional and technical outcomes in acute ischemic stroke patients with hyperdense middle cerebral artery sign treated with endovascular thrombectomy
ConclusionPatients with HMCAS treated with EVT do not have a worse outcome at 3  months compared with no-HMCAS patients. Patients with HMCAS required a greater number of thrombus passes and longer procedure times.

Prediction of blood pressure variability during thrombectomy using supervised machine learning and outcomes of patients with ischemic stroke from large vessel occlusion
AbstractMechanical thrombectomy (MT) is the standard of care for patients with acute ischemic stroke from large vessel occlusion (AIS-LVO). The association of blood pressure variability (BPV) during MT and outcomes are unknown. We leveraged a supervised machine learning algorithm to predict patient characteristics that are associated with BPV indices. We performed a retrospective review of our comprehensive stroke center ’s registry of all adult patients undergoing MT between 01/01/2016 and 12/31/2019. The primary outcome was poor functional independence, defined as 90-day modified Rankin Scale (mRS) ≥ 3. We used p...

Efficacy outcomes and safety measures of intravenous tirofiban or eptifibatide for patients with acute ischemic stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis of prospective studies
AbstractTo review the literature for randomized control trials (RCTs) and prospective cohort studies investigating the safety and efficacy of tirofiban and eptifibatide in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane library were searched for available papers published up to September 2021. The efficacy was evaluated based on the 3-month favorable outcome [modified Rankin scale (mRS)  = 0–1], functional outcome (mRS = 0–2), and the last available National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score measured in each study. Twelve studies (two RCTs and 10 prospective cohorts) an...

Hyper-acute EEG alterations predict functional and morphological outcomes in thrombolysis-treated ischemic stroke: a wireless EEG study
AbstractOwing to the large inter-subject variability, early post-stroke prognosis is challenging, and objective biomarkers that can provide further prognostic information are still needed. The relation between quantitative EEG parameters in pre-thrombolysis hyper-acute phase and outcomes has still to be investigated. Hence, possible correlations between early EEG biomarkers, measured on bedside wireless EEG, and short-term/long-term functional and morphological outcomes were investigated in thrombolysis-treated strokes. EEG with a wireless device was performed in 20 patients with hyper-acute (<  4.5 h from onset) ant...

Clinical features and efficacy of reperfusion therapy in minor ischemic stroke patients with atrial fibrillation
AbstractThe efficacy of reperfusion therapy (RT) using intravenous infusion of recombinant tissue plasminogen activator and/or endovascular therapy for minor ischemic stroke (MIS) has not yet been established. The present study aimed to elucidate the clinical features of MIS patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and examine whether they could be potential candidates for RT. Data of MIS patients, defined as those with a score  ≤ 5 on the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale, were extracted from patients admitted to our hospital between 2006 and 2018, and clinical characteristics were compared between the AF and ...
