Conclusions— AF-stroke is associated with considerable long-term morbidity, fatality, stroke recurrence, and nursing home requirement. Adequately resourced national AF strategies to improve AF detection and prevention are needed.

Potential new uses of non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants to treat and prevent stroke
Conclusion: There may be a role for NOACs in stroke prevention and treatment beyond atrial fibrillation. Randomized controlled trials are needed to compare NOACs to current stroke prevention and treatment strategies in certain subgroups of patients with cerebrovascular disease.

Rivaroxaban Versus Dabigatran or Warfarin in Real-World Studies of Stroke Prevention in Atrial Fibrillation Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—In this systematic review and meta-analysis, rivaroxaban was as effective as dabigatran, but was more effective than warfarin for the prevention of stroke/thromboembolism in atrial fibrillation patients. Major bleeding risk was significantly higher with rivaroxaban than with dabigatran, as was all-cause mortality and gastrointestinal bleeding. Rivaroxaban was comparable to warfarin for major bleeding, with an increased risk in gastrointestinal bleeding and decreased risk of intracranial hemorrhage.

Reduced Smoke-like Echo and Resolved Thrombus in the Left Atrium with Rivaroxaban Therapy in an Acute Cardioembolic Stroke Patient
We report a case of a nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) patient with acute cardioembolic stroke in whom rivaroxaban, an oral direct factor Xa inhibitor, reduced a smoke-like echo in the left atrium and resolved a thrombus in the left atrial appendage. A 71-year-old man was admitted because of the sudden onset of right hemiplegia and aphasia and was diagnosed with acute cardioembolic stroke associated with NVAF. Outcomes With Edoxaban Versus Warfarin in Patients With Previous Cerebrovascular Events: Findings From ENGAGE AF-TIMI 48 (Effective Anticoagulation With Factor Xa Next Generation in Atrial Fibrillation-Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction 48) Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Patients with atrial fibrillation with previous IS/TIA are at high risk of recurrent thromboembolism and bleeding. Intravenous Thrombolysis in Anticoagulated and Thrombocytopenic Ischemic Stroke Patients Does Not Increase the Risk of Intracerebral Hemorrhage (P4.271)
Conclusions:These data suggest that IV rt-PA can be safely administered in coagulopathic and thrombocytopenic patients. Although rates of sICH and mortality were similar to the NINDS cohort, caution may be needed to identify certain hemorrhagic risk factors. Warfarin-Resistant Deep Vein Thrombosis during the Treatment of Acute Ischemic Stroke in Lung Adenocarcinoma
A 66-year-old man with acute ischemic stroke in the setting of lung adenocarcinoma developed acute-onset deep vein thrombosis (DVT) of the lower limbs after changing to warfarin from a heparin combination. The diagnosis of warfarin-resistant DVT was established based on the laboratory data and clinical evaluation. Heparin administration resulted in good control of thrombin regulation. Cancer patients are at high risk of venous thromboembolism, and the combination of these 2 conditions is known as Trousseau's syndrome.
