Rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder in Brain Injury: A Complex Case Requiring Close Coordination of Care
CONCLUSION: The correct diagnosis was only achieved by clear communication among team members which allowed for optimal treatment and improvement with therapies.PMID:37661894 | DOI:10.3233/NRE-220284

Correlates of participation six months after stroke in an Italian population: results from the RIPS (Post-Stroke Intensive Rehabilitation) Study
CONCLUSIONS: In our cohort of patients addressing postacute stroke rehabilitation, prestroke participation levels were on average good, while they were severely reduced six months after stroke for all the considered items except reading and making trips. Higher FAI at follow-up was independently associated with a higher functional level and no cognitive impairment at follow-up, with lower stroke severity in the postacute phase, as well as a higher anamnestic participation score.CLINICAL REHABILITATION IMPACT: Our results suggest that investigating prestroke participation may be highly relevant to predict, and possibly addr...

Aphasia associated with non-traumatic subarachnoid haemorrhage: a systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: Aphasia presentation is highly heterogenous following non-traumatic SAH. Future research using comprehensive language assessments at multiple time points post onset is required to better understand aphasia presentation and management needs for this population.PMID:36594360 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2022.2157056

High Intensity Gait Training for Patient With Apraxia Following Ischemic and Hemorrhagic Stroke
High intensity gait training (HIGT) has strong research evidence for improved gait outcomes post-stroke; however, few studies address motor planning deficits within this framework. The purpose of this case study is to describe the application and outcomes of HIGT in a patient with apraxia undergoing inpatient rehabilitation after stroke.

African Americans and Women Have Lower Functional Gains During Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation After Hemorrhagic Stroke
Conclusions The results of our study indicate that Functional Independence Measure efficiency was worse for African Americans and female patients with intracerebral hemorrhage. Future research should consider these racial and sex disparities and focus on providing targeted rehabilitation therapy.

Water-based therapeutic exercise in stroke: a scoping review
CONCLUSIONS: This scoping review highlights common parameters of WBTE interventions and provides an inventory of the differences in the treatment approaches utilized in this population. Opportunities for future work include the development of a standardized treatment protocol, qualitative or mixed methodology research, and greater inclusion of more individuals with more severe stroke-related impairments. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONWater-based therapeutic exercise is an approach that may allow stroke survivors to carry out challenging activities in a safe and accessible environment.Water-based interventions for stroke s...

Intra-rater and inter-rater reliability of pressure pain threshold assessment in stroke patients
CONCLUSIONS: PPT assessment with good or excellent reliability can be used in stroke patients. Neither of the two sides (affected or unaffected) affects PPT reliability, and intra-rater reliability is better than inter-rater reliability. In addition, gender, stroke type, and motor function can affect the reliability of measuring mechanical pain threshold in post-stroke survivors.CLINICAL REHABILITATION IMPACT: The pressure algometer can be used as a reliable and portable tool to assess the mechanical pain tolerance and sensory function in stroke patients in clinics.PMID:35362718 | DOI:10.23736/S1973-9087.22.07378-6
