The urgent neurological consultation in the population of the province of Ferrara, Italy
AbstractIn the province of Ferrara, Italy, the urgent neurological consultation (UNC) cases in the population correspond to the resident outpatients who undergo a UNC in the ER of the university hospital of Ferrara (UHFe). Thanks to this health organization a retrospective survey identified 612 UNC cases (range of age 7 –102 years, median 67,5 years) in the study period giving a period prevalence rate of 173 per 100,000 (95% CI 159.3–187.3) which increased with age (χ2 for trend = 178.4p < 0.001). Evolution of a US County System for Acute Comprehensive Stroke Care Clinical Sciences
We examined relationships between stroke details, reperfusion therapies, hospital transfers, and their change over time.Methods—All patients from January 1, 2013, to December 31, 2015, for whom 911 was called within 7 hours of onset in whom Emergency Medical Services personnel suspected acute stroke were evaluated.Results—Among 6132 patients, 3924 (64%) had confirmed diagnosis of stroke (74% ischemic/26% hemorrhagic), yielding diagnostic precision of 64% in the field. Trends in stroke hospitalisation rates and in-hospital mortality in Aragon, 1998-2010
We present data globally and broken down by stroke subtype, sex, and age group. Results The number of cases increased by 13% whereas age- and sex-adjusted hospitalisation rates showed a significant decrease for all types of stroke (mean annual decrease of 1.6%). Men and women in younger age groups showed opposite trends in hospitalisation rates for ischaemic stroke. Case fatality rate at 28 days (17.9%) was higher in patients with intracerebral haemorrhage (35.8%) than in those with subarachnoid haemorrhage (26.2%) or ischaemic stroke (13%). We appreciate the correspondence by Safiri and Ashrafi-Asgarabad regarding our article “Short-Term Outcome of Spontaneous Intracerebral Hemorrhage in Algarve, Portugal: Retrospective Hospital-Based Study” recently published in Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases.1 It appears as if the methods and objectives of our study were misinterpreted. The main objective was to ide ntify the 30-day in-hospital predictors of death based on demographic, clinical, and radiological variables and for that, multivariate analysis was performed.

Comments on “Short-Term Outcome of Spontaneous Intracerebral Hemorrhage in Algarve, Portugal: Retrospective Hospital-Based Study”
We were interested to read the paper by Nzwalo et al that was published in the Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases in 2018.1 The study was conducted to determine the predictors of 30-day in-hospital spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage mortality in Algarve, the southernmost region of Portugal. It is clear that an interesting study has been conducted, but some methodological issues need to be taken into account.

The Burden of Diabetes and the Chance of a Previous Stroke: Thrombolysis for Recurrent Stroke in Diabetics
Intravenous thrombolysis with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator is still not approved by the European Medicines Agency for patients with diabetes mellitus and previous stroke. We assessed functional benefit and potential risk of thrombolysis in patients with diabetes and previous stroke and the influence of age, preexisting diabetic damage, as well as acute and chronic hyperglycemia on outcome, symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage, and in-hospital mortality.
