Nrf2 and Ferroptosis: A New Research Direction for Ischemic Stroke
Cell Mol Neurobiol. 2023 Sep 20. doi: 10.1007/s10571-023-01411-y. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIschemic stroke (IS) is one of the leading causes of death and morbidity worldwide. As a novel form of cell death, ferroptosis is an important mechanism of ischemic stroke. Nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is the primary regulator of cellular antioxidant response. In addition to alleviating ischemic stroke nerve damage by reducing oxidative stress, Nrf2 regulates genes associated with ferroptosis, suggesting that Nrf2 may inhibit ferroptosis after ischemic stroke. However, the specific pathway of Nrf2 on ferroptosis in ...

Role of Iberin as an anti-apoptotic agent on renal ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats
This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic potential of Iberin, known for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antiapoptotic properties, in a rat model of renal IRI. Twenty-four adult male rats were randomly divided into four groups: Group I (Sham group) underwent laparotomy without IRI induction; Group II (Control group) underwent laparotomy followed by renal artery clamping for 30 minutes to induce ischemia, followed by 2 hours of reperfusion; Group III (Iberin treatment group) received a pre-injection of Iberin (15 mg/kg) and underwent 30 minutes of ischemia followed by 2 hours of reperfusion; and Group IV (Vehi...

Synthesis of 1,3,5-triphenyl-1,2,4-triazole derivatives and their neuroprotection by anti-oxidative stress and anti-inflammation and protecting BBB
Eur J Med Chem. 2023 Aug 21;260:115742. doi: 10.1016/j.ejmech.2023.115742. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAcute ischemic stroke (AIS) is a serious cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease; Oxidative stress and neuroinflammation are important factors which destroy blood-brain barrier (BBB) in AIS. In the study, a series of 1,3,5-triphenyl-1,2,4-triazole derivatives were designed and synthesized; the optimal compound 9 was obtained by screening their anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory effects; the neuroprotection effect of compound 9 was evaluated with a rat middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) model. Subsequently, the m...

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 6350: Gas Chromatography & ndash;Mass Spectrometry-Based Cerebrospinal Fluid Metabolomics to Reveal the Protection of Coptisine against Transient Focal Cerebral Ischemia & ndash;Reperfusion Injury via Anti-Inflammation and Antioxidant
This study aimed to investigate the protective effect of Cop on cerebral ischemia–reperfusion (IR) rats with a middle cerebral artery occlusion model by integrating a gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS)-based metabolomics approach with biochemical assessment. Our results showed that Cop could improve neurobehavioral function and decrease the ischemia size in IR rats. In addition, Cop was found to decrease inflammatory mediators (e.g., prostaglandin D2 (PGD2) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and attenuate oxidative stress response (e.g., incre...
