Self-reported hypertension and use of antihypertensive medication among adults - United States, 2005-2009.
Abstract Hypertension affects one third of adults in the United States and is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke. A previous report found differences in the prevalence of hypertension among racial/ethnic populations in the United States; blacks had a higher prevalence of hypertension, and Hispanics had the lowest use of antihypertensive medication. Qualitative data suggest that there are several facilitators and barriers in implementing public health policy recommendations. DHDSP will use these baseline results to...

Partnerships Can Fight Childhood Obesity in Tennessee (Opinion)
America has a weight problem — and I’m not simply referring to the few extra pounds many of us pick up over the holidays. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 70 percent of Americans are either overweight or obese, and our wide waistlines put us at greater risk for life-threatening health conditions such as heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and several types of cancer. Unfortunately, Tennesseans fare worse than most.
