Incidence of post-stroke depression symptoms and potential risk factors in adults with aphasia in a comprehensive stroke center
CONCLUSIONS: These findings align with earlier evidence identifying aphasia as a risk factor for experiencing PSD symptoms and also suggest aphasia severity is proportionate to the risk. Aphasia Predicts Unfavorable Outcome in Mild Ischemic Stroke Patients and Prompts Thrombolytic Treatment
Conclusions: Aphasia is an early marker of unfavorable outcome in mild ischemic stroke patients. In these patients thrombolysis should be considered beyond the NIHSS scoring.

Synthetic Cannabis and Acute Ischemic Stroke
We describe 2 cases that introduce a previously unreported association between synthetic cannabis use and ischemic stroke in young adults. A 22-year-old woman presented with dysarthria, left hemiplegia, and left hemianesthesia within hours of first use of synthetic cannabis. She was healthy and without identified stroke risk factors other than oral contraceptive use and a patent foramen ovale without venous thromboses. Aphasia Is an Independent Risk Factor Affecting Acute Stroke Outcomes (P1.186)

Effect of aphasia on acute stroke outcomes
Conclusion: Aphasia is independently associated with increased LOS and complications during the acute stroke admission, adding $2.16 billion annually to US acute stroke care. The presence of aphasia was more likely to produce a poor functional outcome than hemiparesis. These data suggest that further research is necessary to determine whether establishing adaptive communication skills can mitigate its consequences in the acute stroke setting.

Recurrent stroke in a patient with vitamin B12 deficiency and MTHFR mutation
We report an unusual case of recurrent stroke in a patient with vitamin B12 deficiency who was also homozygous for the methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene mutation. The patient was a 35-year-old male vegetarian with no known medical history who initially presented with global aphasia, slurred speech, right facial weakness, and right-sided hemiplegia and was found to have a stroke (NIH Stroke Scale score of 25).
