Benchmarking Outcomes of Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement in Patients with Bicuspid Aortic Valves
CONCLUSIONS: In this nationally-representative study, 30-day mortality was similar but risk-adjusted 5-year mortality was significantly lower in bicuspid patients undergoing isolated SAVR compared to tricuspid patients, specifically low-risk and normal left ventricular ejection fraction patients. Long Term Outcomes and Anticoagulation in Mitral Valve Surgery - A Report from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons Database
CONCLUSIONS: Anticoagulation was used in less than half of mitral valve surgery. In MVrep patients, warfarin was associated with increased bleeding and was not protective against either stroke or mortality. In BMVR patients, warfarin was associated with a modest survival benefit, increased bleeding and equivalent stroke risk. Race and Socioeconomic Disparities in Proximal Aortic Surgery
CONCLUSIONS: Patients of Non-White race undergoing proximal aortic surgery have less insurance coverage, more urgent procedures, and a higher comorbidity burden than White patients; which translates to Non-White patients having significantly higher morbidity. Distal Aortic Progression After Hemi- Zones 1-3 Arch Replacement in Acute Type A Aortic Dissection
CONCLUSIONS: There was no significant difference in long-term survival, distal aorta growth, or reoperation rate for distal aortic aneurysm after Hemiarch or Zones 1-3 arch replacement.
