The current and potential health benefits of the National Health Service Health Check cardiovascular disease prevention programme in England: A microsimulation study
ConclusionsOur model indicates that the current NHS Health Check programme is contributing to improvements in health and reducing health inequalities. Feasible changes in the organisation of the programme could result in more than a 3-fold increase in health benefits.

Bariatric Surgery in the United Kingdom: A Cohort Study of Weight Loss and Clinical Outcomes in Routine Clinical Care
Conclusions Bariatric surgery as delivered in the UK healthcare system is associated with dramatic weight loss, sustained at least 4 y after surgery. This weight loss is accompanied by substantial improvements in pre-existing T2DM and hypertension, as well as a reduced risk of incident T2DM, hypertension, angina, MI, and obstructive sleep apnoea. Widening the availability of bariatric surgery could lead to substantial health benefits for many people who are morbidly obese.

Formoterol in the treatment of experimental cancer cachexia: effects on heart function
ConclusionsThe results suggest that formoterol treatment, in addition to reducing muscle wasting, does not negatively alter heart function —in fact, some cardiac parameters are improved—in animals affected by cancer cachexia.

Abstract Obesity is a risk factor for diabetes, cardiovascular disease events, cancer and overall mortality. Weight loss may protect against these conditions, but robust evidence for this has been lacking.
