COMMD5 is involved in the mechanisms of hypotension after parathyroidectomy in patients receiving hemodialysis
CONCLUSIONS: Serum COMMD5 levels were increased after PTx in SHPT patients. COMMD5 promoted high expression of ANP and eNOS in endothelial cells, leading to vasodilation and resulting in hypotension.PMID:36804542 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejphar.2023.175596

DDR1 and MT1-MMP Expression Levels Are Determinant for Triggering BIK-Mediated Apoptosis by 3D Type I Collagen Matrix in Invasive Basal-Like Breast Carcinoma Cells
In conclusion, and in agreement with the other studies (Ford et al., 2007; Koh et al., 2015; Toy et al., 2015; Takai et al., 2018), our data suggest that during the acquisition of mesenchymal features, the level of full-length DDR1 expression should be considered, in addition to the other markers, as an important biomarker in the prognosis of aggressive breast carcinomas. As summarized in Figure 9, the regulation of cell proliferation and apoptosis by the collagen/DDR1 axis involves a differential activation of DDR1 signaling pathway and thus BIK expression. In the case of the basal-like bre...

Chemical Engineering in the "BIO" world.
Abstract Modern Chemical Engineering was born around the end of the 19th century in Great Britain, Germany, and the USA, the most industrialized countries at that time. Milton C. Whitaker, in 1914, affirmed that the difference between Chemistry and Chemical Engineering lies in the capability of chemical engineers to transfer laboratory findings to the industrial level. Since then, Chemical Engineering underwent huge transformations determining the detachment from the original Chemistry nest. The beginning of the sixties of the 20th century saw the development of a new branch of Chemical Engineering baptized Biomed...

Modulation of A-type K(+) channels by the short-chain cobrotoxin through the protein kinase C-delta isoform decreases membrane excitability in dorsal root ganglion neurons.
In this study, we identified the functional role of cobrotoxin, the short-chain α-neurotoxin isolated from Naja atra venom, which acts in the regulation of the transient A-type K(+) currents (I(A)) and membrane excitability in dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons via the activation of the muscarinic M3 receptor (M3R). Our results showed that cobrotoxin increased I(A) in a concentration-dependent manner, whereas the sustained delayed rectifier K(+) currents (I(DR)) were not affected. Cobrotoxin did not affect the activation of I(A) markedly, however, it shifted the inactivation curve significantly in the depolarizing directi...
